Hello, I'm in the process of trying to locate a bios chip for this motherboard: ASUS VL/I-486SV2G rev 1.8

The chip was missing when I received it so i'm looking for any information about what chip type, #'s, etc. I can get. The only thing I know is that I believe it is an Award Bios and has 28 pins.

Also hoping to find some information about the jumper settings on this particular board. The manuals that are easily available online are for a later revision with a different pin layout for the cpu jumpers. My board has 2 rows of 6-pins and 3 rows of 5-pins. The manuals that are online only have setting for boards with 5 rows of 6-pins and 2 rows of 5-pins.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

You can get the BIOS image from Phil's Computer Lab webpage:

I recommend the latest one (0402.001), you have to program it to a 27C512 chip or equivalent (there are Flash and UV-erasable variants).

Regarding the jumper settings, I wrote a fairly detailed guide of what each jumper does in revision 1.8 specifically, but it seems that the post didn't get much attention due to most people having the 2.x revisions. Hope it is of help to you:

Huge thanks, TheMobRules! This helps tremendously! I'll have to pick up a chip programmer and a 27C512 ASAP. Pretty cool to see you were able to convert yours to the full X4. Not sure if i'll bother doing that conversion anytime soon, as I'll be using an Intel DX4ODPR100 for now. This should get me going though. Do you happen to know if the 1.8 board will properly handle the full 1m of cache?

Thanks again!

Yeah, it should support 1MB of cache, I believe the jumper settings should be the same as for the 2.x revisions, so you can take those from the manual. You can also follow the silkscreen on the board.
