Someone led to me DosBox as a method of running Nahlakh, Tom Proudftoot's 1994 old-style shareware crpg. First of all, great product and great support community you have here.

Here's my problem: when I run Nahlakh, it hangs when I save. It sounds as if the hard drive is still running, but the "save . . . .. ." indicator remains and no other commands work. I have to minimize and use the task manager to close it out. When I restart, my game is saved at the right point -- but only in part, because it has saved the condition of characters, but not saved my impact on the world (stuff Ive already killed revives, making it impossible to progress in the game).

Sometimes when I mash the space key at the same time as hitting save it saves normally. (That's me, sophisticated troubleshooting methods).

I'm using XP, 1 gig ram, the latest version of nahlakh, the latest version of dosbox. I'm also using D-Fend, but I've isolated it from that because it also occurs when I use DosBox manually.

Any ideas?

This is probably fixed in the current CVS.
I tried Naklakh version 1.30:
a) in DOSBOX 0.62: saving after starting the game was ok, I once experienced the mentioned problem when trying to save after a fight
b) in the current CVS: I tried twice to start the game, fight battle and save and it was ok.

So it is *probably* ok (unless I was lucky). Wait for the next version or try to use CVS build (search forum if you do not know what it is).

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen. Figuring out how to use the CVS looks a little complex for a big dummy like me. I'll probably just wait for the next release. Thanks for the advice.

Hello!
I am experiencing the same problem.
When I try to save the program crashes and exits.

The error message I recieve is "Runtime error 002 at 1409:19C4." 😢

When I reload the game it has saved everything in the inventory and all character stats, but not my overland explorations, and what enemies I have defeated or doors I have opened.

This really is a shame because it is really a great game, despite the fact that the graphics weren't even that good when the game was released in 1994.

Is there someone who has been able to save a game properly and then reload it successfully?

Please reply if you did. Is there any settings I should be aware of?

I tried lowering the Cpu Cycles and trying different types of cpu to emulate, and I tried disabling the sound, but still no success. 🙁

What version of DOSBox are you using? Try using a recent CVS build.

I think I´m using the 0.63 CVS. Is there a newer or modified one?
As the screenshot implies. 😊

What could be wrong then?

Is there any other modifications I should make?
Change settings in the configfile?

I'm using WinXp Sp2.
