when i went to use my SC-55 after a while, i noticed the power cable had become half unplugged, probably from pull on other cables in the vicinity. when i fully plugged it in and tried to press power, all it would do is light up the power, ALL and MUTE lights, but not the display. it would not react to any button presses but after unplugging it for a little bit, the unit went back to working as normal. power adapter is an ACB-230E so that should not be the issue, also i run the unit without a battery. does anyone have an idea what exactly happened there, maybe the protection diode was triggered by the loose cable powering the unit on/off intermittently at some point?

most likely the half-plugged power cable messed with standby mode so the system "froze" because of no good power signal
since it returned back to normal after a power cycle there is no need to worry so don't think about it

actually the problem reappeared... first i have tested another roland power adapter to rule that factor out completely. what i found out is that actually it's related to the midi cable being plugged in while the pc is running (card used is sb16 ct2290). upon switching the pc off while the sc-55 was in that aforementioned state, or pulling the midi cable, the unit would instantly turn on. this doesn't always happen though, i could turn on the pc afterwards and turn the sc-55 on and it would work. so i guess whatever i had done before put the mpu in some state that stalled the sc-55.
