Hello all, I recently acquired a Compaq Armada 7400, and upon the usual inspection, I came across a leaking 7.2v 60mah nimh battery, which I pulled out and noticed no damage to the board. However, I have been having the hardest time finding a replacement for it online that isn't an insane price.

So I have a couple of questions, first, are there any suitable substitutes out there currently for it that use the same 2 pin connector head? The part numbers are 220807-001 or 220351-001 and I am attaching photos of the battery itself.

Secondly, what is the auxiliary battery even used for? Because this laptop also comes with a 3v CR1632 RTC battery, and the bios is stored on the HDD partition so I honestly don't know what the function of the auxiliary battery is, and I have been wondering about leaving it out altogether too since it booted up without it.

I apologise if it sounds like a bit much, I have been researching for hours for a suitable replacement and have come up with more questions than answers so I would appreciate any help I can get.

For the battery try looking at cordless phone batteries. Their fairly cheap and you can always splice the connector off the laptop battery if need be. On some laptops they are used for sleep mode/hibernation to keep the ram powered.

I appreciate the response and will look into those batteries. However, the battery leakage was around and near the connector so do you think it would be safe to use again? If so, can I just give it a bath in citric acid and be good? Thanks.

Just make sure it's cleaned and it should be ok. If not I've had great luck finding that style connector at my local hobby shop.
