DOSBox-X as a DOS emulator is based on DOSBox, but it has so many added features that do not exist in DOSBox or other forks. Just to name a few of its unique features: support for GUI menu bar & config tool, save and load state (save slots and save files), better compatibility with DOS applications (and Windows 3.x/9x), more DOS commands, Pentium MMX & Pro, printing (virtual or real printer), long filename and FAT32 disk images, host clipboard copy & paste, 3dfx Voodoo & Glide emulation (including passthrough), cue sheets with FLAC/Opus/OGG/MP3 CD-DA tracks, FluidSynth, NE2000 Ethernet, pixel-perfect scaling, TrueType font output, V-Sync, PC-98, and many more.

The latest version of DOSBox-X (0.83.10) has been released recently with quite a few improvements, such as a new Windows 9x-friendly dynamic core, write/overlay support for mounted ZIP/7Z archives, improved support for playing 3Dfx games, support for native pixel-perfect scaling with openglpp output, support for Direct3D output in Windows SDL2 builds as default output, support for VGA/EGA/CGA & mono mode dual-screen display, improved compatibility for Windows XP, along with many usability improvements such as support for color theme customization for the welcome banner, resolving file paths in config options, and menu option "List Printer Devices" to list printers on Windows (see release notes here: http://dosbox-x.com/release-0.83.10.html). However, the installation instruction for its portable Windows releases may not be very straightforward for some users because there is no all-in-one installable package available. Rather, it was separated into at least 3 zip files including Visual Studio, MinGW32 and MinGW64 builds without included documentations, which likely makes it less convenient for new users to get started.

In order to make it easier for Windows users to get started with DOSBox-X and run the program, the all-in-one auto-installable Windows package for the official DOSBox-X 0.83.10 version is now available for download. It includes all the latest official Windows builds (Visual Studio, MinGW32, MinGW64) of DOSBox-X 0.83.10 in one package, and let you choose a default DOSBox-X build to run. You will be able to start DOSBox-X as soon as the installation ends. There is also a quick start guide included in it.

P.S. The DOSBox-X user guide is available from the online Wiki (with subpages) :

Also, I'd like to thank joncampbell123 for creating the DOSBox-X project, and emendelson for testing and code-signing the Windows installer. Also thank the DOSBox Team for the DOSBox project which is what DOSBox-X is based on.
