Hello everyone,

Continuing the Tualatin build I'm making with this MSI 815EPTPro board, I saw in this link that I needed to update the BIOS to version 7.4 in order to support the 1.4Ghz 512k CPU: https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-MSI/815E ... 6337).html

I started the P III-S 1400MHz processor (SL6BY) on this mobo (BIOS ver. 7.4) at regular frequencies. Moreover, this processor accelerates under Win'98SE with regular FuzzyLogic4 utility up to 1600MHz."

On the MSI website under the many BIOS versions downloads for it, I get this "6337v74.zip" for the 7.4 version: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/815EPT_Pro.html

Inside the .txt file, it says"815EPT Pro (MS-6337 v5.x) V7.3 BIOS Release", not version 7.4. In all the supposedly 7.4 versions I downloaded in various sites this .txt file says exactly the same, "version 7.3", never 7.4. Is this just a typo or am I missing something?

I'm upgrading the BIOS on a Win98 machine. Having never updated a BIOS, what is the best/easiest way for me to do so? All the warnings about the "dangers" of doing it plus all the information is getting a little daunting. On a Win98SE machine do I have to do it in DOS?

As always, thank you very much for your replies and help.

Thank you very much, is it possible to use the Award Utility to update the BIOS in Win98, or it only works with later Windows versions? Inside Windows instead of DOS I mean

I would stick to the instructions provided with the text file and flash under DOS . Flashing anything under Windows 9x, even if officially supported, is something I would avoid .
