My question is what is the best PCI Video Card for my 2 dos / Windows 3.11 PC's

PC 1

Processor: Pentium 1 socket 7 233MHZ MMX
Memory: 1x 32mb SD-RAM
Graphics: S3 VIRGE DX 2mb EDO (FASTWARE VC963C-3D) PCI
Motherboard: FIC VA-502 socket 7
Sound Card: Creative Soundblaster AWE64 Gold ISA
Network card: Intel EtherExpress 16TP Lan Adapter 10mbit ISA
Hard drive: StarTech IDE to SATA Hard Drive or Optical Drive Adapter with ssd Transcend Ts32Gssd370S

PC 2

Processor: Pentium 1 socket 7 200MHZ MMX
Memory: 2 benches of 16 MB Edo ram
Video card: s3 trio64v2 / dx 2mb
Hard Disk: Barracuda ST330620A 7200rpm 2MB Buffer 30gb
Motherboard: VTECH 430VX 35-8258-03, socket 7
Sound Card: Creative Soundblaster AWE64 Gold

What I mainly do with my PCs is play heavy dos games and use Windows 3.11. Which PCI video card do you recommend to me and with how many MB for this PCs, there is now an S3 VIRGE DX 2mb EDO (FASTWARE VC963C-3D) PCI and an s3 trio64v2 / dx 2mb in and the other PC . Or does it not make much sense to update these maps.

What I also can't figure out is how good these 2 Video Cards were for their time

The games I play on it in dos are Red Alert, Duke Nukem 3d Tomb raider 1 GTA, Theme Hospital, carmageddon and under Windows 3.11 Holiday island. I play the games that are also playable via network under Dos 6.22

I'd say the Trio64 (whatever version) is perfect for DOS.

I think Windows 95 is better suited for a Pentium 200/233 and AWE64. If you decide to use Win95, you might want to add a 3Dfx Voodoo 1 add-on card which would enable you a plenty of early 3D games.

Upgrading the Virge's memory to 4MB would give you access to slightly higher resolutions/color depth, but that probably wouldn't make much difference under Win 3.11. There are also a few S3D-capable games like Tomb Raider which claim to need a 4MB Virge card to run in S3D mode.

That said, those are both excellent DOS cards with regards to game compatibility.

PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Core 2 Duo E8600 / Foxconn P35AX-S / X800 / Audigy2 ZS
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 980Ti / X-Fi Titanium
