My sound blaster pro 2.0 is picking up noise and static and some sounds dont play thru PC speakers but play only in internal motherboard speaker ?

Do I need “Set-mix’ loaded ?
What settings do I need in autoexec.bat ?

First I want to know if I have the right CDROM cable ?

Does anyone know the Pin-out of the CD-In connector ?

CD-In
Pin #1 = ?
Pin #2 = ?
Pin #3 = ?
Pin #4 = ?

I dont see anything about this in the manual.

It just takes a standard CD audio cable with that type of connector and suitable connector to fit in to the CDRom drive itself. These cables are a dime a dozen.

You don't show us the cable you have and I am not psychic.

I'm pretty sure Sound Blaster Pro series cards are supposed to be a bit noisey naturally, no? That's just kinda the reality of early Creative Labs cards, especially if you have the internal speaker routed. Aging caps may play a part too.

Did they ever make shielded CD audio cables? I know some of my quieter cards pickup a bit of noise when the CD drive is active but it's usually inaudable under the sounds of the game. Best fix is to turn it down in the mixer program.

I found the info on the pin-out in the back of the manual

CD-In
Pin #1 = G
Pin #2 = R
Pin #3 = G
Pin #4 = L

I commented out the line in autoexec.bat for the Set-mix settings.
Music CDROM disks play clear with no static.
The game “Wing Commander” plays with some static.
Most games sound good.
Creative test and demo songs and demo MIDI/.Wav files play good.

If I plug my speakers directly into the CDROM drive the audio is clear.
Its when I plug my speakers into the rear jack of the sound card that I get static and distortion ?

It is strange because I have a couple sound blaster pro 2.0 cards and they both suffer from static and distortion.
But the AWE64 cards I have play perfectly.

So maybe I just have a bad driver. But I have some original installation disks I can try out.

Its just some games that sound terrible.
