VOGONS

The AB BH6 I was planning on using for a build seems to have gone a bit south in the past...I knew the caps were from the plague and needed replacing, but I wasn't expecting the L11 inductor to be burnt to a crisp. When recapping the capacitors surrounding it, the inductor quite literally just fell off the board, revealing quite a nasty burn mark. My biggest problem is inductors and how they work are total voodoo magic to me, and I have no clue how to find what value L11 is/was to search for a replacement. The datasheet for this motherboard doesn't include any component specs and googling turns up zilch, so if anyone here knows, or has a similar motherboard and would be kind enough to measure it, I would be endlessly thankful.

Attached is a pic of where it originally was on the motherboard, and what's left of it now

Thanks!

I use to have some of these motherboards. I did not like it because of the bios. I don’t even think it can boot from CDROM thru bios settings.
I would not waist my time on this motherboard if you can find another better one for cheap.
Those 4 caps in the photo on the left look swollen too.

Welcome to the fourm! 😃👍 Don't let Intel486dx33's post irritate you: The Abit BH6 used to be an overclockers' favorite and is certainly one of the best Pentium II and Klamath Pentium III motherboards. In its later revisions it even was a very good Coppermine board.
It absolutely supports CD boot and it's worth fixing if you can get the value of that coil.👍

Thanks! I was really aiming for an early Pentium II Klamath build using this motherboard since it had all the features and expandability I was looking for (AGP, 2 ISAs, etc). Unfortunately, it seems the inductor did a lot more damage than I previously thought, burning straight through it's vias pretty bad. Tried to remove the remaining legs that were still soldered in, and it's practically just ash where the vias used to be. Well beyond my capabilities to repair, I'm sorry to say. Oh well.
