Hi everyone,

Just saw this:
https://youtu.be/6LxPEz9x2fs

Normally, I would think there's nothing special about using something that works, for a few decades.

But in these days, the public seems to be obsessed with upgrading and replacing things (and people),
just because they are aged.

Best regards,
Jo22

Edit: Title fixed.

I knew of Ham Radio types still using BBC model Bs and Apple IIs into the 2000s, but most of those guys were somewhat advanced in years by then and not sure they'd still be with us. I bet those that are are still keep them going though.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

+1

Wasn't the ZX Spectrum also used for SSTV? 😀

It really seems that the computer and radio hobby went hand in hand back in the 70s/80s.

Gratefully, many vintage radio programs got preserved, at least.

Though there are also some which were copy-protected. 🙁

I'm kinda ashamed of my fellow citizens who did use such tricks.
The second popular nogo (imho) was scratching the chip markings away (for obfuscation).
- Not helpful in case a device needs repair.

PS: I still use an old PK-232 TNC here from time to time.
I've also got the C64 interface/cable for it, but I'd love to use a VT52 or VT100 terminal instead.

Like this guy:

The attachment TVjPYI4_d_1_.jpg is no longer available

Unfortunately, such classic terminals are hard to come by these days. *sniff*

Awesome! 😀

Edit: need a bit of retrobrite 😁

Yup, with a bit of retrobrite it would look like new. ^^

This one is also interesting.. A C64 that's used in a gardening for printing labels etc.
Found the picture thanks to a commenter (Tastaturensohn) in one of the news articles about that Atari ST.

PS: I've attached the pucture for those of yoz (us) which do not like social media stuff.
Hope that's okay, I also shrunk its size..

It shows how something that works... works!

I look forward to encountering an application that runs on an emulated 16 bit computer on an old emulator that only works within a virtual 32 bit windows xp PC that resides within a 64 bit VM itself on some multicore powerful server!
