I need to install Windows 98se on a motherboard with Sata DVD and Sata HDD (Asus P4S800-MX SE motherboard) but booting from the 98se CD cant load the CD rom driver it says CD drive not found is there a driver for Sata? Ive booted with a floppy and used SFDisk to format the Sata 320GB HDD I guess I have to make the HDD bootable with system files copied to it then edit autoexec.bat and config.sys to point to a Sata CD rom driver and boot to the C drive then install from the 98se CD. My Bios is set to use Sata controller in native not IDE or Raid.

With my Aopen i865 Gm-7n I can boot from the Win98 CD with a SATA optical drive and install to a SATA SSD by setting the SATA ports to "SATA Only" which sets them to "Legacy mode." If you don't have a bootable Win98 CD (OEMs were bootable) you can get one from a site called Winworldpc.

I would but my motherboard does not have sata only or legacy only disabled, native and raid so I tried GCDROM.SYS as a driver which works with Sata DVD drives but now I get a freeze somewhere during the install and a Windows 98 picture, I'm going to try "legacy os" enabled in CPU settings after I swap back the Sata drives I'm trying IDE atm and after install it can't find the DVD drive to finish installing

Copy the Windows 98 CD to the hard drive. http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win98/install … dexfullpage.htm
