Impulse Tracker on XP

ok, getting the original DOS based Imulse Tracker working on XP hasn't proven too difficult for me - I can launch the program and load tracks but they're distorted and crackly... 😵
now I've heard a few different rumours and wasn't sure if VMDsound or DOSbox would prove helpful, any suggestions?

Both can prove helpful. VDMSound only emulates sound. So while using VDMSound with Tracker under XP then you'll have emulated sound but you'll have full usage of your processor (well as much as NTVDM will give ya anyway).

If you run it under DosBox then you'll be using emulated sound AND an emulated processor.

So, try VDMSound first, then DosBox. You'll probably have to fiddle with VDMSound/DosBox sound buffers so search the forum for suggestions.

I was able to get IT 2.14 working fine under XP+VDMSound a couple years ago, but things may have changed since then.

Has anyone actually managed to get IT to run on the Mac OS version of Dosbox?
