I got GOG version, when i start game i have very low fps. I have no idea how to fix it. Any ideas?

Every bit of game footage I see on replay vids is slow/stuttery, so there must be an issue with the game overall. I'm not familiar enough with the game to say it was that way to begin with, but the reviews state compatibility issues with the newer versions of Windows, so that might be it.
