I recently wanted to play some old games that I played back when I was using Windows 98 SE. I still have the installation disk and manual with the product key so I spun up a quick VM using VMWare 16 and installed Star Trek The Next Generation - "Final Unity" it detected my "Sound Blaster" but playing the game generates a LOT of static and popping.

I suspect this is going to be a reoccurring issue with games and sound blaster audio. Is there a different Audio device I should configured with VMware or different drivers?

Technically this game can be run on dosbox, but there are other games that will need Windows so I'd like to find a real solution rather than a work around. Would a different Virtual Machine suite like VirtualBox give better results?

So I went to try timertool by making a new windows 98 VM and now anytime I try to load up my 98 se vm it crashes. I don't know what's going on there, but on the good news side of things I have discovered 86Box that I have been using VERY successfully to play my old windows and dos games.
