So I built this tiny Windows XP PC for my father so he could play some old favorites. Back in the day he used to play a lot of games, but in recent years he mostly quit.

Recently I acquired a Shuttle PC and I figured it would be excellent to turn it in a tiny, nostalgic machine for him. This afternoon he fired it up and immediately started fragging with DOOM 😀

The Shuttle had the following specs and runs amazing for what I want it to do! I only replaced the HDD and GPU. I chose for a low profile GPU as the Shuttle PC only has a PSU of 250 Watt and limited space. Most games he plays are from before 2005, so don't require ultimate power 😉

CPU: Pentium 4 @ 3.2 GHZ
GPU: ATI Radeon 5450 1 GB VRAM
RAM: 1.5 GB RAM
HDD: 500 GB 7200 RPM Hitachi

Geforce2 GTS and Pro, and Geforce4 MX440 all share similar power usage and can fit in that shuttle case and is much better compatibility.

Or HD5650, which is bit better.

Is the CRT part of the setup? Thats fairly dedicated for a "dad build"
I setup my old P3 so dad could play Need for Speed 3, 4, Porsche earlier this year attached the unused VGA input of his daily driver.
Only been a casual gamer you don't need to put the best of the best in....as tempting as it can be 😉

Is that an LGA775 XPS?
I'd be curious if it runs something like a C2D E6300. With that a GT740 and an X-Fi, it would be a very capable XP PC for all of the XP era.
