Hi all,

I've recently started using a Riva TNT2 based card in my socket 7 machine and - as is well known - it's a fantastic 2D DOS card. But there's one game that doesn't work with it I've found - Street Rod. I've tried the first release of the game, plus the freely available 'SE' version. And I've tried a 'proper' TNT2 (Diamond Viper 770) and a TNT2 M64, both of these are 32MB cards.

I don't have a screenshot to share but if you've seen it you'll know what I'm talking about - vertical banding all across the screen, like 2 images have been sent through a shredder and reassembled to make one image. With the original version, it happens when you move your mouse in the DRM screen. The SE version works fine - you can run the game and race, etc. But if you save and then load a game, then it happens there.

I've tried different memory configurations and removing any mouse drivers, and I've tried various system speeds (it's a K6-2+ based system so SETMUL can make it run like a 486) - no change.

This game works fine on this machine with a Riva 128 or any other card I've tried, so it seems to be the TNT2 specifically.

This is a long shot but has anyone else experienced this and knows of a fix?

Thanks.

This isn't entirely helpful but Street Rod's definitive version is the Amiga one, so you may wanna try that out instead 😀

Well truth be told I haven't actually played it for years, this is just something I noticed while checking the compatibility of the TNT2 and the intention of this PC is that it runs everything on my list of nostalgic classics, and SR is on the list. Getting this PC "perfect" has been the most enjoyable game I've played in years 😁

I have no experience with the Amiga but one of these days I do intend try one via emulation. That DOS Street Rod PC speaker is going to be hard to beat.
