I picked up a Compaq Deskpro En 1ghz model in a thriftstore for 10$. I cleaned it up changed the cooling paste and it booted just fine.

On the PCI riser card there is a strange header called req/gnt. I looked up the manual but I can't really make sense of it. Is it some variation of SB link?

it's for PCI bus mastering. There should be a another connector on the mainboard that it connects to with some cable.
