I am trying to get the Quad Speed Cd Rom to work. are there any specific drivers for it?
it is not being detecting on DOS or Windows 98.
Drive opens and close and CD spins
EDIT: put it in slave mode and it worked. What could have changed for it to work?

You are talking about IDE drives, a standard now replaced by SATA (no master/slave arrangement)
On the rear of drive there is a black jumper (a piece of black plastic which connects a circuit) to select:
MASTER: The strip cable allows to connect two devices: one at the end MASTER and one in the middle (SLAVE) . For the drive to work, must be connected on the end of strip
SLAVE: The same but 40 pin IDE cable must be connected at the middle of strip.
CABLE : Let the cable decide.
