Hi,

I have a 430tx PC with a QDI P5I430TX Titanium IB+ board that runs MS-DOS and Windows 98.

The computer has been successfully running with a regular CD drive for little over a year now, but just now I swapped it out for a DVD-ROM drive (a Lite-On SOHW-1673S) after which it stopped working.

Both MS-DOS and Windows 98 will detect the drive, but it always fails to read the contents of the regular CDs that I put in the drive.

For instance, on Windows 98 trying to read any CD will result in the error "X:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready."

Does anyone know what might be causing the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure the drive works proper ? And Curious if running it on Secondary as Master or is a slave to a HD ? I remember there were issues with some when not run as Master on secondary controller...also there might be a firmware upgrade to fix issues....
Unrelated maybe but recall have some DVD burners show as a "worm" drive in Device Manager and usually had issues with those....or maybe my memory is confused 🤣

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Does everything look normal in Device Manager, DMA is enabled?

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?
