I got a Labway Yamaha YMF719E-S ISA sound card that I’m having issues with on DOS games and getting sound.
Nascar2, Tomb raider , despite running the setup for each game and choosing Sound Blaster 16.
Sound card works ok in windows for its sounds. I installed the opl3-sax vxd driver package.

I.e Nascar2 I chose sound blaster 16 with the correct Base, IRQ and DMA results in no sound.

The Setupupsa utility is running fine on exit dos mode from windows

And Nascar2 shows the following screen on exit

This card does not support SB16 but only SBpro2 like most other non-Creative made cards. 16bit sound is only possible via WSS on YMF71x.

As Tiido said, that sound card doesn't support SB16. You should be selecting either SBPro or WSS for sound effects, the latter is preferred whenever available as it has superior sound quality than the SBPro.

Ok thanks for that, I chose Sound Blaster stereo and it worked.
But in Wolf3D Apogee full game v1.4, the digital sound is not working. It's detected as Adlib instead of Sound Blaster.
Is there a way to fix this?

I’m thinking of moving this sound card to a Via C3 build where the mainboard has a CT5880. Will that be better with sound blaster 16 compatibility , and OPL3 for older games where will also get a wave table add on for the Yamaha.

What PC are you using? I'm thinking it may be too fast for the SB detection to succeed.

PII 300MHz
I rebooted and it’s working now. I guess must've been issue after I exited a previous game.

Very unlikely, I have run Wolfenstein 3-D (and its derivatives) successfully on faster computers than the PII-300.

Perhaps the previous game used OPL3 features and didn't properly reset the FM synth after exiting? That could have messed up the sound card detection routine.

Yes that's not the case, I was thinking of something way more modern.
