Okay, I'm in need of some help. I recently got DOSbox and a handful of old games, and have had tons of fun playing them. There's only one game that continues to create problems for me, and it's Mechwarrior I. (If I could find Mechwarrior 2 {I used to have it for my Performa back in the day but now I'm running on a PC} I'd be playing that instead, but...)

I heard about the compatibility problems with version 62, so I downloaded version 61, and the same problems remain: whenever I try to recruit someone in the bar, or go to check my crew and switch mechs, etc, the screen freezes and I can no longer play. Also, sometimes when I check my crew there's a strange sort of "melting" effect. I can see the text on the side but the rest seems to melt away.

I tried changing "intelligent=true" to "intelligent=false" in version 62, but there's no such line in the .conf file in version 61. Is there anything I can do? Or do I have to suck it up and fly solo for the rest of the game?

I'm running it in Windows XP if that info helps any.
