Hello fellow vintage hardware enthusiasts,

I'm reaching out in hopes of finding some guidance on repairing the HDD caddy of a Compaq LTE 5000 series laptop. The issue I'm encountering is a torn cable from the connector that links to the computer (the other end connects to the HDD), and I'm having trouble identifying the type of adapter or how to properly repair it.

Would anyone happen to know what specific kind of caddy or cable I would need for this series? Alternatively, any workaround suggestions that would allow me to use an SD/CF card instead of the traditional HDD would be greatly appreciated.

For context, I have a functioning caddy in another laptop of the same model, but I'd prefer to have each laptop fully operational without having to swap the caddy with the HDD between them.

Thank you in advance for any assistance or insights you can provide!

Best regards,
Pavel

Buy one of these cables and solder the other end to the back of the slot.

thanks for info! I would like to avoid soldering, especially such tiny things 😀 So, still thinking what kind of connector it's. 50 pins and approx 3.4 mm width. what about SCSI???

Have a read through this - the pinout is confirmed working on my Armada and the LTE 5000 is the same with a couple less pins connected, so may not have DMA support: Finding pinout for Compaq 50-pin HDD connector on Armada 7300 series
It's good that you've got the connector to start with, you could manually wire it up using a 2.5" cable like the one linked above but it won't fit a full 2.5" hard drive in the caddy after that, only maybe a Compact Flash adapter.
