Gravis UltraSound emulation problems

in DOSBox General
Dear DOSBox crew: The GUS emulation seems buggy. I'm using the default settings. The drums during playback get stuck in a loop which quite smashes the experience. I'm using the 4.11 GUS drivers and patches. The same issue arose using the PROPat set, so the patches seem irrelevant. What should I do?

MIDI drum problems with GUS in Descent

In following the direction and installing the Gus software and ProPatch 1.6, I get annoying repeated drum hits during MIDI playback in Descent. Is this common? How do I work around it? Also, (off topic) how does one set up Timidity++ to use the Gus patches? The readme is none-too-specific.

PS3 Controller on Descent

I cannot seem to correctly set the controller buttons in Descent. Dosbox reports the controller to be a 4 axis, 13 button joystick, which is correct, but when I try to set the buttons in the Descent controller config, many of the buttons are being set as the same one (X == R1, or some such nonsense …

Re: MT-32 emulator available again!

in MT-32 General

Also, where was I supposed to stick the PCM ROMS when I installed the driver? I put them in the directory …

On a lighter note, using it, I have now won my very first game of multiplayer MAX. Can you elaborate on that? :) We agreed on a short game, therefore my opponent, who was hosting, picked a small map - "Three Rings". I picked Von Griffin, with 3 scouts (upgraded scan, and speed), massively upgraded …

Re: MAX Sound Crackling/Popping

It's a LOT better! I didn't notice ANY performance issues during gameplay. There are still some sound delays (gaps, minor pops) during the intro, and menu selection (one pop), but they're minor. The system I'm using right this second is a 2.8 GHz P4 w/ 512 Mb RAM.

Re: MAX Sound Crackling/Popping

That is so cool. Back when MAX could run under XP (M$ has broken it, somehow, in the intervening years), the same sound problem happened under VDMS - I wrote a post about it 4.5 years ago (it's still there!). If you have fixed it, man, I'm gonna be lovin' it!
