Re: mixer /listmidi stand-alone program

I mostly use this just to check that all MIDI drivers are installed and working, and that device 0 is the right one (since that is the one used by programs which have no MIDI device selector built-in). Every now and then MIDI devices disappear from the list without any apparent reason, and I have to …

mixer /listmidi stand-alone program

Is there anyone here who would like to whip up a little Windows program which does the same thing as the "mixer /listmidi" command in DOSBox? I have not found any other program which provides this particular information, and it feels a bit silly that you have to use an emulator to get it. I'm not a …

Re: Can a Roland MPU401at and LAPC-I co-exsist?

I don't think there will be any problem as long as you configure memory adresses, IRQs and DMAs coorectly so you don't get any conflicts. On my 486 I have a Sound Blaster AWE32 (a "full-size" card which means it's as long as the PC case!), and a Roland MPU-401AT with a SC daughterboard on it (forgot …

Re: Problem with driver on XP

If you want to play Loom with MT-32 sound you need to have 1. the PC floppy version (EGA 16 colors) 2. the MT-32 patch for that version If you don't have the patch the game only supports Adlib (and PC speaker) The CD-ROM version of course only have digital sound & music. I forgot where I found the …

Re: MT-32 beyond PC

The Macintosh version of Thexder has MT-32 support. Unfortunately I don't know of any Mac-emulator that has MIDI-support. (The PC version only has support for PC beeper and PCjr/Tandy sound.) By the way, I successfully played some Amiga versions of Sierra games in WinUAE with my real MT-32.

Re: MPU-401 Intelligent mode

Congratulations! I can't even get David Wolf to play MT-32 music using a real MT-32 connected to a real Roland MPU-401 interface installed in my 486 DX2-66 running MS-DOS 6.22... I don't know if these games use intelligent mode, but I had problems getting the following early Legend Entertainment …

Re: MT-32 Emulator and DOSBox Problems

If it's any help... All Sierra's SCI0-games (King's Quest IV, Space Quest III, Police Quest 2, Larrys 2 & 3 among others) require the MT-32 to be connected to a Roland MPU-401 MIDI-interface (or 100% compatible). If you connect the MT-32 to an old ISA Soundblaster the computer freezes when you try …

Re: Windows driver release

I finally downloaded and tested the MT-32 emulator driver! Of course, since I only have a 600Mhz CPU, I got really choppy sound. But apart from the crackling and stuttering it sounds quite good! :D I got it to work with VDMSound and WinUAE, but DosBox just freezes. I also tried it with ScummVM and …

Re: Windows driver release

As for those old Sierra games, I also noticed that many support the MT-32 (or any external MIDI synth for that matter) or the Sound Blaster, but not both at the same time (only a few do). The only Sierra-games I can remember right away where you have to choose between sampled sound effects or MT-32 …

Re: Windows driver release

The Genies laugh in QFG2 actually sounds rather silly even on a real MT-32. If you run it with the SoundBlaster driver you get a sampled laugh which sounds much better. Unfortunately you can't get sampled sound effects if you run with the MT-32 driver, so you have to choose between bad music and …
