Re: Why do modern video games suck so badly

in Milliways
Regarding sports games, as a fan of NBA games myself, I think there is a difference in that genre. I had nearly all the NBA Live games up until 2007. But the only one I played and played and played was 2005. 2007 was crap. When 2k9 came out for PC I gave it a shot and the difference was much more …

Honestly, it's really almost impossible to have a proper discussion about the past if you don't know much about it. It's hard to have a proper discussion when you have to be so caustic. Your points have validity but I'm not sure why you insist on throwing in personal jabs and sneering statements …

So this is how you classify most gamers: Hardcore gamer: play tons of games all the way through and then move on to the next challenge without necessarily playing the game multiple times. Casual gamer: play a game here and there, don't bother finishing them sometimes, and rarely play the same game …

Dh4, your description of a hardcore gamer is way off. Hardcore gamers want a totally immersive experience and definitely would complain about features that prevent that, where a non-hardcore gamer plays a game for lack of anything better to do, and would probably quit halfway through and watch a …

KAN remarked to me in a PM... ...linear gameplay kills replayability; helping game companies to make more money by producing sequels. Planned obsolence, anyone? That's probably the biggest point that is getting lost in the argument here. Replayability means less profits through less ability to sell …

You know, if you go to www.yoyogames.com you'll find many indie game developers with good, unique gameplay (along with a lot of very poor quality games). View some of their contest winners to see some really cool stuff. Maybe not the depth of gameplay you're looking for, but certainly unique.

Sorry for not replying...I haven't played it much lately (just got NBA 2K9 for PC, first PC version, the menu sucks but the gameplay is awesome). I'll try reducing the CPU cycles next time around.

I play mostly modern games but tend to gravitate toward those with a little more depth to them. One thing I have often lamented is this. I love Gunship 2000, especially the multiple helicopter control. I also love Battlefield Vietnam's helicopters. I'd love to combine BFV's choppers and graphics …

Now I'm having a problem where sometimes halfway through the mission most of the keys stop working (everything except enter and the arrow keys). Anyone else noticed this?

I uploaded a video clip of this game! Check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW2Q-6t90a8 MAN do I get worked over by that 2S6...those buggers are mean! I should have pickled him with a Hellfire right away but I thought I'd use that cannon trick...apparently they made the Crack troops better in …

Believe it or not I play strictly with the keyboard. I find that although it's not very realistic it helps me control the chopper a lot better. But then, I used to play this game nonstop. One way to win on the "Crack" setting is to use your cannon a lot. Keep the target just off to the right or left …

Your English is good--better than many of my American friends... :D Good advice on the Sidewinders. If you meet jets often, it's a good idea. I rarely see jets so I usually just avoid them where possible and pack a few Stingers or Hellstreaks to deal with the odd Hip. I've never seen a S&R on a …

The old version used to show the downed plane as an X on the map so it was easy to find the pilot nearby. They fixed it in the new version. Recon missions are fairly simple. Bring a Defender, Kiowa, or Comanche Scout with you on your mission (or fly it yourself to score a few brownie points--a …

WOW. Nice work man! It runs BEAUTIFULLY! Better than the original on a 486! I'm going to be playing this a TON from now on. On a mission now--went to try and S&R a downed pilot. I'm on "Crack" as the enemy setting, everything else except wind on Realistic. Wind is just annoying and doesn't give you …

Re: Problems with "Gunship 2000" in v0.65.

lol this was an old thread...but it dutifully notified me that you had replied. I haven't played GS2000 in a while but I might at that. Still haven't found a chopper game worthy to be its successor. I didn't know about D-Fend Reloaded...downloading it now. I have my original GS2000 manual from when …

Re: Problems with "Gunship 2000" in v0.65.

I too love to play Gunship 2000 and have run into this bug. It is a little annoying in that I usually like to review the briefing so I can know what to expect and load out my choppers accordingly. As it is, I have to load them out with a standard vanilla mix of weapons--not a huge deal, but would be …
