Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

Anyone know how to paste text within a DOSBox window? With my contact manager application running in a DOS window in Windows, I was able to do this by clicking on the program icon on the header bar at the top of the window and a drop-down menu would have the PASTE function listed. With the DOSBox …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

SUCCESS! Using Rolf's brilliant idea of just assigning another key on the keyboard to use, it worked. I just made another key do the functionality of F10. This got around my inability in mapper to use the Mac COMMAND key as a modifier, which seemed necessary to get the F10 to actually function as an …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

Rolf, Yep, I do have that box checked, and the function keys work fine for F1 through F9, but for F10 to work I still need to hold down the COMMAND key when I press F10, which is a pain when done a hundred times a day. Hal

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

I had some trouble trying to use the mapper, because the iMac keyboard has a COMMAND key which is used in combination with may other keys, and there does not seem to be a COMMAND key on the mapper keyboard. Indeed, in DOSBox, to even get the mapper to come up, CTRL-F1 did not work -- I had to press …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

On my new iMac, with .72 now installed, I'm happy to report that I was able to get the dailer working with Telemagic, my contact manager application. This was done with the help of Rolf, who graciously suggested the following lines be put in the file DOSBox Preferences, located under "/Users/ …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

Rolf, I'm really glad to hear that a solution is POSSIBLE. But, I'm afraid that I have no idea how to do a compile. I looked at the posts from the link you provided and it is WAY over my head. Would there be a way for me to download and install your improved version the same way I downloaded and …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

The exit command works PERFECTLY. Thanks for that! Okay, my last task before I'm done with this setup is to get the phone dialer to work with my contact manager. I purchased the Apple USB Modem and Apple tech support walked me through testing it, so we know it works for standard Apple applications. …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

Did it! Success! I finally got the autoload feature running. The trick was to keep the machine from automatically adding an extension to the preferences file. Thanks to everyone, who steered me to the answers. I really appreciate it. This is minor, but would be nice: I'd like to put CTRL-F9 (the …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

WD - Where can I find or see the README file that you are referring to? Could you point me to it or copy it to an email and send it to me? My email is: hsegal@usa.net Rolf - I proceed to set up a plain text file called DOSBox Preferences (with no extension) and put it in the correct Preferences …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

Rolf, Your comments have been VERY helpful. Thank you. I was able to get the F10 function key working by using the combination Command-F10. I'm not having luck finding the preferences file to edit, however, it is not located in that location on my iMac. As a matter of fact, a search of all the files …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

1. In the System Preferences under Keyboard I check the Function key settings and now all my needed function keys work, EXCEPT F10, which is one that is very important. Any suggestions? Oh, and from the Z prompt, CTRL-F! still does not work to bring up keymapper. 3. I discovered by trial and error …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

1. To use keymapper, I need to press CTRL-F1, but the F1 key does not work, just like all the other funtion keys within the dos box 2. Where do I look for the that? 3. Oh my, while in the dosBox, the normal cursor on the iMac screen has disappeared, so now I can't even close the program. I'd hate to …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

I'm happy to report that after purchasing the new iMac and installing dosBox on it, I successfully ported the TeleMagic program (my contact manager) and all the data from my Windows machine to the iMac. Then, lo and behold, I was able to get the basic functions of the program working in the dosBox …

Re: Using DOSBox on a new iMac

I greatly appreciate the comments above. My application is a business application that DOES need the ability to dial a phone number using the computer's modem or an external modem. As far as the clock is concerned, it depends upon how much the clock is off and how often it is corrected. I could live …

Using DOSBox on a new iMac

Hi, I'm considering whether to purchase a new iMac and wonder if anyone has already tried running DOSBox on that machine? If so, is it a quick and easy install? I'm not real technically oriented, but I can follow directions. But I might not purchase the iMac if I can't run my favorite contact …
