Re: SB AWE32 DOS/Win 98 Drivers?

Well I got Windows to recognize both cards, but now the SoundScape card is conflicting. I was able to fiddle around with the settings a bit to remove all the conflicts (not 100% sure I know what I'm doing), but it still shows the card as not working (a little yellow !). Is there a recommended …

Re: SB AWE32 DOS/Win 98 Drivers?

you know it occurs to me, how do you set both the SoundScape and AWE32 to run together in the autoexec.bat and config.sys? They both seem to use the SET BLASTER line, and obviously they can't both use the same IRQ, PORT, and DMA settings. Do I have to make a multi-boot AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS …

Re: SB AWE32 DOS/Win 98 Drivers?

Thanks for the information, I'll try this tonight. Any hints on getting Windows to see my AWE32? I can tell Windows to install specific hardware (pick from the list), but then it wants me to insert the Sound Blaster driver disk which I don't own. Will the drivers in any of those files that were …

Re: CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT

in DOS
How were you looking for them? In Explorer? Make sure that you have "Hide protected operating system files" unchecked in the folder options (or maybe it was "show all hidden files and folders") otherwise Config.sys and Autoexec.bat will be hidden from sight when looking in Explorer. If you're …

Re: SB AWE32 DOS/Win 98 Drivers?

Hmmm, try the following: Download the DIAGNOSE.EXE utility mentioned above and execute it in DOS mode. Select "Auto scan" when it asks for the base I/O address. The utility should then display the I/O address of the card (220-280h) and show the following line near the top of the screen: DSP version …

CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT

in DOS
Hard to believe, but I've completely forgotten how to make a CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The strange thing is that I never remember having to make them before. Tweak them yes, but the base part was always there. However since I reinstalled Windows, config.sys and autoexec.bat are nowhere to be …

Re: SB AWE32 DOS/Win 98 Drivers?

I can't seem to get this to work. It wont install the drivers in Windows 98, and when I boot to DOS, it still seems to know that I'm in Windows 98 (well it says 95, but you get the picture). Do I have to have a dual boot running DOS 6.22 and Windows 98? Where are the Windows 98 specific drivers? …

SB AWE32 DOS/Win 98 Drivers?

I recently acquired a AWE32 card (non PnP version). However when I plug it into my system, Windows 98 does not seem to recognize it (it doesn't even seem to see it). Where can I get the DOS and Windows 98 drivers? I found a file that said it was a Windows 95/98 driver update, but it didn't seem to …

Re: MT-32 or CM-32L?

Don't the older MT-32 modules have a buffer overflow problem on Pentium speed machines? Is there a way to fix this? The new MT-32's are apperently impossible to find. Tempest

MT-32 or CM-32L?

The title says it all, should I get a MT-32 or CM-32L for my DOS gaming needs? I know Lucas Arts made use of the extra sound effects in the CM-32L, but I've also heard that some Sierra games won't sound right unless they're played on an early revision MT-32 due to some bug in the firmware. …

Re: Best System Configuration For 90's PC Games?

Is the MT-32 module worth picking up or will the MIDI from the Soundscape board do? Also, will the MT-32 display messages when used through the Soundscape card? What about the Sound Canvas card (SCC-1)? Is that worth tracking down? So is the Millennium card decent enough for games? I don't recall …

Re: Best System Configuration For 90's PC Games?

So I can run the AWE32 and the Soundscape together? Interesting. So if I had both in the same system what order should I chose for sound when given options (from best to worse)? 1. Soundscape support 2. AWE32 3. SBPro / SB16 4. General MIDI Also if I have a MT-32 module, where does that fit into all …

Re: Best System Configuration For 90's PC Games?

Soundscape has better MIDI than AWE32 for DOS Games. AWE32 also has a big, annoying TSR called AWEUTIL (I believe) that is needed for General MIDI support quite often. This needs EMM386 to be loaded, or it won't work. That's not ideal at all... The only downside to Soundscape is its lack of SBPro …
