I did have an ALI 1429, but sadly it didn't have a VLB slot. I did have an OPTi 495SX board with VLB, and that was a pretty solid 386 motherboard. With the set I assume is good (because I've been using it for years) it would usually show 256kb, although it intermittently showed 512kb for the 1024kb setting. It's possible that one or more of the chips went bad I suppose. I should probably get a tester. CMOS settings were of course turned down. …

51mb/sec is the combined read/write/move speed for main memory. With interleave off I believe it was 36mb/sec. I haven't tested the system for hours on end, but I ran DOOM and GTA1 for a while. L2 Writeback cache on this board appears to be somehow broken. At least according to speedsys it is slowing down memory substatially while not improving the L2 cache bandwidth. DTK used that case, and very similar looking Enlight models for anything from 286 to 486. As the sticker on the back said, it was originally a 486. So it's actually a newer case retrofitted with an older board. Big red rocker switches were still common in the early 486 days.
