Re: Doing a custom machine with 86Box

Duh, I missed that your are on MAC. 86Box can be used with different VMs by specifying it in the command line: 86Box -C config.cfg or 86Box -P path/to/vm The default name for the config is CONFIG.CFG but you could rename it so you could multiple configs and launch the one of your choice. This is how …

Re: Doing a custom machine with 86Box

That's not possible, you are restricted to the ones included. It's quite a huge list, you can probably find something very close to your target machine. There's no way to switch machines, you need to use a manager such as Winbox. https://github.com/86Box/WinBox-for-86Box

Re: Using pcem with a XP guest

Not to hijack this thread but I decided to try 86Box with XP. It has more options for CPU such as Pentium II XEON, 100MB NIC and no 512MB RAM limit. PCEM9.png For some reason XP picked up the XEON as a Celeron but there is defintely a difference in performance especially the extra RAM and fast …

Re: Using pcem with a XP guest

Since you mentioned WinVice.. I have fond memories of running SNES9x on that Pentium MMX 166 w/ XP. Frame skip was on auto, I believe. Still, Tiny Toons Adventures ran smoothly. It was really fun, thanks to XP. Btw, the memory settings aren't ideal. Please try 768 MB instead of 512 MB. SP2 is a bit …

Re: Using pcem with a XP guest

XP is doable in PCEM but not recommended for optimal experience. Here is how I setup PCEM 17 to run XP: 512 MB 3DFX Voodoo 3 3000 Fast VLB/PCI Voodoo Graphics box ticked Ensoniq AudioPCI (ES1371) Standard IDE Network card: RTL8029AS PCEM1.png Performance is not great. Dxdiag successfully completes …

Re: Windows XP how much people still use for MAIN OS?

I was using XP as my main OS till about 2 years ago. Main reason I switched was lack of modern browsers. The available Mozilla browsers are woefully outdated and the chrome ports (360Chrome) do a better job but are glitchy and lack DRM support. I find XP runs remarkably well on a modern Windows 10 …

Re: Pc printers get worse and worse

I've owned several inkjets over the course of my PC years. My first was the original HP Deskjet. Not the 500 or plus, just plain old Deskjet. Then, as now, I only used it for the occasional resume, invoice etc. This is a problem when it comes to inkjets which are meant for continuous use. Sporadic …

Re: Tell me what it's like to own a GUS

I owned a GUS MAX when I had my 486DX 33. In a nutshell: If your game had GUS support it was awesome (very few titles I owned). If your game only had SB support GUS sucked (it's SB emulation was horrible). Mostly good for demos and trackers. After about 6 months I replaced it with an SB AWE64 ISA. …

Re: Hayes modem's CONNECT speed result?

ATW0 will get you the DCE connect speed which is measured in bits per second. If you purchased a Hayes 9600 baud modem that meant your theoretical top data transfer speed would be 9,600 bits per second. For some reason all DCE equipment (modems/routers) are always speed rated at bits/second yet …

Re: Hayes modem's CONNECT speed result?

If you're seeing 'CONNECT 57600' that's the connection speed between your modem and PC (Data Terminal Equipment). In order to display the actual connect speed of the modem and remote host you have to use some Hayes commands (ATW0) so it will display the DCE speed (Data Carrier Equipment). https:// …

Re: I've ruined XP builds for myself

Definitely recommend Basilisk 55 if you're using XP - it's the most compatible for modern websites and constantly updated. https://i.postimg.cc/3JCNzHSr/xp-1.png https://i.postimg.cc/sD8HFtv8/xp-2.png https://i.postimg.cc/bvPKMK5P/xp-3.png Since it's a Mozilla based it has its own internal SSL …
