Asus was top of the line in this era. I never had a significant issue with any of their products until very recently. Their boards were top notch in an ocean of mediocre Taiwan clones. One of my first self built and purchased systems had an Asus P3B-F at its core.

i've been meaning to get one of these boxes for quite a while. I love the style of these machines. I'm a bit agast as the prices now. I thought they would be cheap forever. I also need to get off my fat ass and find a way to make some new VRM modules.

as i understand it, its just 3 bog-standard surface mount caps. nothing special. there are pics on the internet and on other vogons threads. The bezel i linked is for the model 85/95. the tower. yea. I was going to post here how I had 3d-printed teh bezel already... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5382210 its for the 85/95. The caps in the floppy drive are likely near death. replacing them now before they blow their spooge all over the place is highly recommended.

I have a vauge memory that win95's integrated memory manager doesnt like some MCA systems. there is a fixed file out there, but I;m not at my desktop to look it up.

The requirements for ram change with the cpu complex. The pentium cpu boards pretty much require 36 x 9 style "ecc" simms. If I can find someone who can reverse engineer a 32mb simm to recreate them, I'd love to get in contact with that person.

I mean, 10mb network cards are cheap-ish. 3com & intel based cards fetch a premium regardless of bus. Granted, the cheap ethernet cards generally don't have rj-45. But AUI-rj45 transceivers are common enough. Token ring is extra cheap and sometimes even free!

Are you using the correct ram? these late mca machines used special snowflake ram, even though it is 95% standard 72-pin simms. also make sure you are putting the correct simms in the correct slots. I havent looked at my own xp90 in a while but I think it takes 2 simms at minimum and they need to be …

Xp is a bit too new, imho. I'd try 2000. If you are dead set on XP, try a stripped down version.

Chinon is known for floppy drives. thats an 37-pin external connection. more than likely, its just an external floppy drive controller, or possibly a tape drive interface.
