The general rule of thumb around these parts is the developers of Dosbox built it specifically for games. Many application specific features (Share.exe, printing, parallel port access, etc.) are not implemented because no game needs them, thus applications are considered unsupported.

I usually use Frotz (More specifically WinFrotz) to play old Infocom games. It lets you do things like change the colors, increase the size of the font, etc, and is available on most platforms.

I would suggest switching from DirectDraw to surface output and see if that fixes it. Slightly OT: But is there any reason not to use Exult to run Ultima VII? Exult will allow you to play it like a Windows native game with next to no configuration needed. And keep it graphically original or pretty …

But on the other hand, Sergm, you offer a DOSBox version with mt32emu which I use and enjoy very much!

@HunterZ: Encountered the same issue. I disabled Disney Sounds Source and that fixed it.

What I do is set one as the 'Run Program' EXE and the other as the 'Setup Program' EXE.

I rip with CDBurnerXP to an ISO, then use DAEMON tools to mount. Dosbox also has a built-in ISO mounting command.

And directly above the Color Intensity setting is an option to disable transparency without disabling aero.
