Re: Ripper in XP

in DOS
You shouldn't give up so easily, but it's just weird that it works fine here and not with XP. Maybe you should do a complete downgrade to 2000 or something. DOWNGRADE??!!! I've got tech doc's stating right here that MS dropped the "Pro" theme in XP because Corporate types like the "Luna" theme more …

DosBox suggestions

Since I refuse to use the DosBox forum ;) I thought we could post Dosbox Ideas in here: cut 'n paste text between host/guest Incorporate DosLoad into DosBox Package? DosLoad does not recognize .BAT files. Show current resolution of guest? Screen buffer? Ability to scroll up with mousewheel in CLI? …

Re: WinXP vs Win2k....Hmmm..

Yes tht can be correct. The emulated SoundBlaster my VDMSound uses the standard IRQ's available in DOS 1,3,5,7. The IRQ used by your REAL soundcard can use almost any IRQ since with ACPI the IRQ # doesn't really matter. With APM it does. Kinda complicated and probly moe than what you want to get …

Re: Cannot enable EMS under Win2K...

Whoah! .JPEG rules Free AA! 😎 I wonder... WPCREDIT allows you to change hidden BIOS options. Perhaps that may help in this case? I noticed before that you said that you didn't have any Shadowing options in your BIOS, I've noticed this before in some cases and WPCREDIT has helped.

Yep, Serious Sam is the only recent game I can think of with tons of enemies on screen. Looks like Doom 3 won't have as many. Heck, I doubt you'll see more than 3-4 enemies in the same screen unless it's a boss battle then there may be more. 🙁

Re: WinXP vs Win2k....Hmmm..

The compatibility modes in 2K/XP are not really emulation. Sure one or two of the fixes do involve emulation but as a whole there are simply redirects not emulation. Also XP's NTVDM Sound Emulation is not part of the compatibility modes. It's built into the NTVDM itself. Compatibility mode has …

MSCDEX Research

in Milliways
Took a look at NT 3.51/4/2K/XP They all use MSCDEX v2.21 IIRC, Dos 6.22 uses MSCDEX v2.23 and most DOS CD games are looking for functions on v2.22 or v2.23. oh the DOS MSCDEX is quite a bit bigger than the NT counterpart. 24kb as opposed to less than 1kb. History of Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM …

Re: QFG3/4 Skip.. +Resolution?

in DOS
Unlike Windows Games "nuking" your system for old DOS games in NT is even more unnecessary than doing so for Windows games. So please don't go wiping your system just to get it work work. :) I say try the trial of Connectix Virtual PC or an older machine. Preferabbly Virtual PC first so we can …

Re: Doom and Doom2 with VDMS

Don't you realize that ZDoom, JDoom, Legacy et cetera change MANY things that effectively can cripple the Original DOOM feeling. On the contrary the original Doom "atmosphere" is only increased by the enhanced graphics/sound/gameplay. The intent of Doom is to immerse you in the atmosphere. No …
