Game manual preservation?

in Milliways
Are there any projects around for complete preservation of game manuals for older DOS games? I mean actually converting game manuals to digital formats, with color artwork, proper pages (no folds in middle), indexing and text search. Rather than just scanning the game manuals into a digital format. …

Re: DOS Lemmings with Digital Sound Effects?

in Milliways
Are the sound effects digital or are they still FM only? Sound effects still seem FM only, and no sound options are offered for the command line. The installer only offers a choice of 'PC Internal Speaker, Adlib, and Tandy' for sound, which are stored in 'CDLEMM.CFG'. It seems like the same CD …

Re: DOS Lemmings with Digital Sound Effects?

in Milliways
It sounds like there is a DOS version of Lemmings 1 or at least a double pack that includes Oh No More Lemmings that supports more than just Adlib sound/music. I am going by the instructions seen on this page: https://www.lakora.us/lemmings/dox/ Supported Graphics and Sound Boards: Lemmings …

NewRisingSun wrote: Unless you have actual IPF files of protected PC games, no, but you're welcome to try DOSBox-TC with Kryoflux stream files (converted to .TC via included utilities). Where can I find DOSBox-TC?

Re: Complete parallel port passthrough support?

in PC Emulation
I'm using a PCI Express Parallel Port add-on card, which lacks MS-DOS drivers. PCI Express cards lack the usual legacy remapping of addresses, so I don't think MS-DOS drivers would even be possible. It isn't worth building another older system, just to recover this data.

Complete parallel port passthrough support?

in PC Emulation
Are there any DOS emulators around that offer complete parallel port passthrough support? by complete, I mean support for ECP/EPP too. I have tried several emulators (Bochs, DOSBox Megabuild, VirtualBox, VMware) but only SPP mode support is offered at best. I'm trying to recover large amounts of …

Gold Box sound hacks

in DOS
A few of the games in Gold Box series from SSI limited Tandy sound effects, to only when Tandy sound is selected. I managed to alter the executable files, to allow Adlib or Roland MT-32 music, to be combined with the Tandy sound effects. The changes are quite simple, I just altered the code to use …

Re: First Star Software’s Greatest Hits

in DOS
I tried emailing First Star Software, and their response was: Unfortunately, we don't have any copies left of First Star Software's Greatest Hits. (There was only one version of each title on the disc.) Thank you again for writing and your interest in our older titles. So I doubt any MS-DOS versions …

Re: First Star Software’s Greatest Hits

in DOS
Looks like 14 games to me: The list of games included is clear, just not which ports are provided for each game. Looks like it's still for sale on Amazon UK to UK only: http://www.amazon.co.uk/First-Star-Softwares-Greatest-Hits/dp/B00537XDDG The collection is still available on eBay UK too, but not …

First Star Software’s Greatest Hits

in DOS
Mean Hamster Software released a collection of 15 games from First Star Software called First Star Software’s Greatest Hits in the past. The initial press release stated Atari (8bit/16bit), Commodore 64 and MS-DOS ports would be included for each game. But I have been unable to find any detailed …

Re: Vengeance of Excalibur installer

Just a followup, to confirm the game disks were at fault in my case, they were definitely not the original disks. I bought another version of the game, which includes three 3.5" disks and two 5.25" disks. The installer (from 3.5" disks) works fine, the files from the first two disks are installed, …

Serf City: Life is Feudal (aka The Settlers) with CD Audio

in DOS
The technical specifications for Serf City: Life is Feudal (aka The Settlers) at MobyGames mention CD Audio tracks. Was there really a CD version of the game, offering CD audio for the music? or it is an error on MobyGames? I own the CD release of The Settlers from UK, but there are no CD audio …

Vengeance of Excalibur installer

I'm trying to install Vengeance of Excalibur from 6 floppy disks, but the installer only create a few sub directories (RES16, RES32), and doesn't actually install any files The really strange part is the installer doesn't even prompt for the other disks at all. I have tried using the the mpsfix.com …

Re: Veil of Darkness: Sound troubles

The setup program doesn't have an option for it, but SB + MT-32 is possible with manual modification of the config file. Run the setup and choose SB with port/IRQ and save, then run setup again to select LAPC-1 and save, then in GRAPH.INI modify the byte at offset 0x08 from 0x58 to 0x30. Keep in …
