Re: Daggerfall: XP issues...

in DOS
NM. It wasn't optimal, but these changes resulted in DosBox giving a 20-30 fps performance in dungeons. 1. Disable scaling, period... not even 'normal2x'. This was the worst setting that DosBox could be set on. 2. Change that 'surface' to 'overlay', or 'opengl(nb)'. Again, why this was set the …

Re: Daggerfall: XP issues...

in DOS
I installed XP specifically for a stepping-back-stone to be able to run some older games. I'm currently running 7 as my main OS, but the PC is old enough that emulation through DOSBox is too slow for my tastes. In other words, DOSBox runs the game pretty choppy. EDIT; In my opinion a Pentium 4 class …

Daggerfall: XP issues...

in DOS
Hello. I recently tried to setup Daggerfall (free version) in Windows XP. The thing is even after setting up the virtual drives with ImDisk, and setting the speedset parameters, I'm still having a control issue. Strafing is super slow, jumping practically doesn't work, and holding the run key down …

Looking for particular DOSBox svn build

Hello. A few months back, I downloaded a svn dosbox build from somewhere. I'm not sure where from... But... after a recent reformat of my PC, I seem unable to find the particular version I had before. It had of all things a "menu bar", and because of this, it didn't rely on shortcuts alone. I also …

Re: Can DOSBox be optimized for older PC?

The compiler does it usually far better than you could optimize the sources. Do you mean the actual program/method used to compile would make a difference (Visual C++ for instance)? The compiler does it usually far better than you could optimize the sources. And adding architecture-specific custom …

Re: image creation and mounting in windows 98

in Windows
Pay Software: I know the OP may have figured out what he wants, but I figure I'd mention that Alcohol 52/120% version '1.9.5.3105' was the last supported by Windows 98/ME. It's worth it considering the archaic nature of Win9x support anymore. I'd use the registered version of ISOBuster for image …

Re: Not directly game related:Dualboot 98SE and ME

in Windows
I'd definitely go with Windows 98/98SE. It can be made to work just as well as ME as far as compatibility goes, and it can boot into 'true' DOS mode. It's like having Windows 9x, and DOS, all rolled into one. I consider it much better for a retro-gaming rig.

Can DOSBox be optimized for older PC?

Hello. I was wondering if DOSBox can still be compile optimized for older PCs. We're talking PIII here. I have an older 733 Mhz OC'ed to 825 Mhz that I still use for various reasons. Are there any pre-made DOSBox builds that may run well on this, assuming no 3D acceleration?
