Yes, in DosBox every game I've played works better if joystick timed=false. Additionally if you have a joystick with thottle and twist you want swap34=true. And if you want to configure extra joystick buttons more easily you can use Joy2Key (Google it).

Lol, I run NFS 3 on my high end machine flawlessly, and in higher resolutions than the game originally supported (nGlide).

Maybe it's a videodriver issue, older games that run on ATI cards sometimes don't run on Nvidia cards and the other way around. Does your CD-ROM of Lego Racers also have the option for software rendering? If so, try that.

It could be Lander, but it doesn't have UFO's, rather lunalander type of craft. Or... it could be one of the Descent games, if it's 1998 with D3D it might be Descent 3. Forsaken was based on Descent.
