Re: GeForce 2 Coolers

Thank you for the Zalman suggestion. I will check that too. Here is my card, and what appears to be the same coolers found on ebay. I'll start here. Filename PXL_20240511_182333371.jpg File size 1.81 MiB Views 127 views Filename PXL_20240511_182340055.jpg File size 1.43 MiB Views 127 views Ebay …

GeForce 2 Coolers

Is there any modern advise for how to replace coolers for old cards, such as Geforce2? I have a Geforce2 TI AGP, that is very flat with it's cooler, and does not touch the PCI slot directly next below it. Two "problems". The fan is a bit unusual, sunken into the flat heatsink, and is rattling. The …

Consider a fresh MS-DOS 6.22 Disk1, Disk2, Disk3 install. Then add Phil's MS-DOS startup set. It provides a ready to go CD and Mouse driver support, and some different already configured Memory management environment choices. It makes for a great base foundation. Then from here, add your unique …

Re: Aweutil /EM option - speed sensitive

Then I went back to 1.4 Lose anything noticable when going back to 1.4? That's a bit annoying. Very curious that using another bootloader also had an effect. I have been using BootMagic this entire time, but I hadn't thought of it as a contributor. I use it to boot Win9x in the neighboring …

Re: Aweutil /EM option - speed sensitive

I downgraded the PIII from a 1Ghz to a 600Mhz. Still error. Then I went back into the BIOS and it let me change it to 400Mhz. Worked. When I go from 600Mhz to 400Mhz, the FSB also drops from 100Mhz to 66Mhz. I wonder if that is having an effect, rather than the slower CPU speed. No idea. But I'm …

Re: Aweutil /EM option - speed sensitive

Well, I apparently did not stumble onto this specific thread today, but rather another. I would really love to know more. I disabled my L1 cache as a solution. I too eventually realized it was a BIOS error, and not a game error. Took a while to realize. Since it's not about the game, I'd really be …

Re: Secret of Monkey Island. AWE32 troubles with music

I disabled the L1 cache (L2 cache still enabled) of my PIII, and the game works with MT32 emulation on the AWE64. I do not really know what this did, but I did quite a bit of trial and error, and this seems to be a singular change that makes this work, in my system. I don't know enough to really …

Would rather you didn't bump threads that haven't seen a reply in seven years. I am potentially violating the admin's advise. I get torn between bumping something that already exists, vs duplicating a conversation to another thread. Please advise me if I am bumping too many old threads …

This is why I love this forum. Getting some excellent history and insight from the past compared to now. I did spend some time on BBS's in highschool. Loved ever bit of it. It really was a who you know advantage. Thank you so much for ALL of that detail. I will start with EMM386 only then, on this …

For the "insufficient environment size" error edit your config.sys and add/change this line: SHELL=c:\command.com /e:1024. Thank you! I will give this a try tonight. I have no idea what that effects. Never have seen that suggestion before. I'll try to study up. I too have noticed it might be more …

Re: QUARTERDECK QEMM products ... Good? or Garbage?

I play with QEMM for my MS-DOS 6.22 system. All these years I have never thought to ask if I even need things like QEMM, MEMMAKER, etc. If just manually edit things to LH / Load High, then do I need to bother with them? Maybe I am making it sound too simple. Are these memory managers just txt …
