As for the jumpers, it didn't have a setting for a DX4-120 so I jumpered it as a DX4-100 and then moved the FSB jumper to 40MHz. Any tips for configuring for more performance? It depends. Just having a USB PCI card in Windows on a 486 reduces performance in Windows-based benchmarks. I forget the actual number, but it was around a 10% performance hit. I recall I wrote in a thread somewhere on Vogons which instructs how to set variable CPU voltages on the 4DPS. One resistor gets removed and a trimmer put in its place. The mod is very easy.

Are you sure these resistor packs are utilised to set the full spectrum of CPUs? On the MB-8433UUD board, for example, a resistor pack is only inserted for one oddball CPU, the UMC U5S. For all other CPUs, the resistor pack removed and CPU selection is determined by jumpers.

For graphic cards, I found it often takes rummaging through old driver versions to find the latest version which does not produce undesirable symptoms. While this is especially true when using higher-end cards on a 486, I've also run into this delimma with NVIDIA drivers on newer computers.

"unsatisfactory" is an understatement. Any ISA Trident graphics card worked far better. I was, and still am, using WinXP Pro in that computer.

It was certainly puzzling. That revision of the motherboard I used seems to be best suited for Intel processors and non-K6+ chips.
