Thank for the feedback guys I have GOOD news ands BAD news Good news: I flashed the BIOS It didn't crash the computer It's now recognizing higher-multipliers properly Bas news: It STILL doesn't work with that P3/850 I got At this point I think that CPU is bad. Which is what I was suspecting all …

flashing a BIOS

Can anyone offer something on this? How hard is flashing a BIOS? I am contemplating flashing a BIOS on a CUBX board. And yet every time I have ever tried it has ended in failure. The last time it told me it was the wrong BIOS (even though I was sure it was) and stupid me flashed it anyway. Result: …

help needed with CPU

Ok this is strange. I got a CUBX motherboard that came with a 533 Celeron. Everything works. I ordered a "new" CPU - a P3/850. It does NOTHING with the P3 in place - not even any beeps from the speaker. This is where it gets strange. I put in a 633 celeron that I had. It is detecting it as a 5.5 X …

I have some Tyan 1854 boards that used the apollo peo 133 chipset. I NEVER could get a voodoo 3 PCI and AWE64 to co-exist on those boards. I tried everything, and I do mean everything, but could never get away from stuttering sound. I eventually put a PCI sound card in one, a Radeon video card in …

I never did care for the slot architecture. That was one thing K6-2/3 had going for it - it was a socketed chip. IMHO that gives you a wider range of coolers to choose from.

I have a retail Klamath. I actually undervolted the fan on it cuz it's a whiny little thing. Not that hot really. Slot 1 is rather easy to cool too unlike those Super 7 boards that loved to put capacitors around the socket. The giant fanless P2 OEM heatsinks are very nice. Unreal actually runs a …

Does anyone know who made those cases? I have one just like that first one (the one displaying "133" and I have always been curious as to made it. Those were some of the better AT cases.

People say K6-2 was as fast as pentium. But my experiences in things like rendering. mp3 encoding, video encoding - a k6 was 1/2 the speed of a same-clockspeed p3. (Yeah I know, all those tasks involve floating point math, and that was K6's weakness)
