Re: Old Macromedia Director software and Win2K/XP

in Windows
The crazy thing was that these programs, games, encyclopedia type things worked on XP until Service Pack 2. The only things needed were installing the latest Shockwave Full and Flash, QuickTime 2.1.2.59, the latest QuickTime (yes, both), and at least the programs I still have would work fine. Since …

Re: D-Fend v3 - beta

in DOSBox General
Aw, give him a break for being happy about it. I had noticed that doing what I was doing, that is overwriting first with D-Fend v3 then the v2 update, was resulting in D-Fend resetting any changes I made to my game config files every time I ran the program. I had been renaming that v2 to D-Fend.exe. …

Re: HELP: Sound Blaster 16 PCI not working :(

in DOS
It works within Windows either because you've got the WDM driver installed, as this uses 220-5-1 emulating an SBPro as part of the WDM specification, or you've got the VXD drivers installed, as this uses the settings in the soundcard's tab in Windows Device Manager under Dosbox settings and emulates …

Re: CVS Builds By AEP

He's (She's?) mess'n with ya. There probably haven't been dramatic changes since the release build 0.65 so there's no point to posting it yet. Those that need the special features of the unofficial builds have those available. Don't use the AEP build on 0.65, as it's made for 0.63.

STTNG-AFU Mouse Cursor Description In Game Graphic

I haven't seen this mentioned here so I'm wondering whether any players have this problem and perhaps a fix. You know when you move the mouse on the screen and hover over an item, the description of what the program will do if you click there appears on the bottom left of the game's on screen tool …

Re: CVS Builds By AEP

I've got a relatively new 98SE install going here and haven't gotten into heavy "installing games" mode yet. I just installed Epic Pinball to test Dosbox's running and will get back to other games on it later on. So, that's the only game I can say had problems. I'd imagine that the shift keys and …

Re: CVS Builds By AEP

Alright! I tried the latest build (5-21-05 old) and the shift keys are working as well as the desktop display returning to proper settings after the game exit's. So I think that it must have been something in the newer ways to compile since the latest version you compiled with the old libraries on …

Re: CVS Builds By AEP

Yes, the mouse cursor stays on the screen for me with the 5-9-05 CVS as well. I installed the 4-10-05 CVS compile and that works fine. I think I missed the 4-25-05 one as I can't find it on any of my cdr's. (I burn anything I download. It helps, as I think I qualify for frequent format dollars!)

Re: CVS Builds By AEP

I just tried the new 5-9-05 compile. My keyboard's shift keys wouldn't respond when playing Epic Pinball. Also, my display in Windows 98 wouldn't switch back to 1024x768/32-bit. It would stay in the game's 640x480/8-bit after exit. No problem with the older compile's. I don't know how to build the …

Re: Newer Motherboards-Dos Memory?

in DOS
Yeah, that's what I mean. And I got that from here somewhere. So, NTVDM is the New Technology Virtual Device Machine? And so, removing that basically reduces the command prompt to what I said 98's Dos Mode is reduced to without the user being able to manage the memory. A prompt for dealing with …

Re: Newer Motherboards-Dos Memory?

in DOS
Yes DosFreak, and as a matter of fact I have switched my priority from trying games with vdmsound first before Dosbox to attempting them in Dosbox before trying vdmsound as a last resort. This is because I noticed someone posted, in response to a guy asking about vdmsound development, that in …

Re: Newer Motherboards-Dos Memory?

in DOS
If that relates to anything I've been asking, I don't want to sound like I think anything's wrong with this board. For all I know it may be designed like this for a reason. Perhaps it's something as simple as using an IDE hard drive instead of the SATA one I'm using in it. I wonder what would happen …

Re: Newer Motherboards-Dos Memory?

in DOS
I filled out a support request with Asus, and they sent me a step by step of how to clean install Windows. AARGHHH! I guess they just won't admit that although the board is compatible with Windows 98SE, it is a crippled version without the ability for the user to manage dos memory. So, ms-dos mode …

Re: Newer Motherboards-Dos Memory?

in DOS
Yeah, I've given that advice myself! I'm my own devil's advocate though. Part of the reason for my frequent restructuring of my system's is I can't freek'n decide what the heck I want. I just posted here because I'd like my new computer to be able to run things the old way as well as the XP way. …

Re: Newer Motherboards-Dos Memory?

in DOS
Well, since that board comes with the dos audio built in then it's probably suitable. However, heh, $$$. I spent plenty on this A7V880, the Athlon, the memory, etc. I also have the KT7A rollin' now. Amazingly, I've got the audio, mouse, cd all running in dos mode with about 600K of conventional …

Newer Motherboards-Dos Memory?

in DOS
Hey, I just fired up my old KT7A with the T-Bird 1.2 266 just to enjoy the pleasure of some nostalgic Ms-Dos Mode gaming (and the 98SESP2RC2 with 98SE2ME!). Sure, I can use Dosbox and vdmsound on my Asus A7V880, but it's kind of cool to use my ol' Voodoo 5 5500 and 98. Has anyone tried Ms-Dos Mode …
