Oh. Well...I can probably play the troublesome games from DOS mode, as, even though I get no Sound Blaster sound there, most such games don't us SB.

Hi! Is there a slowdown utility to slow down DOS programs within Windows without affecting Windows?

alfiehicks: try temporarily replacing in your computer's config.sys file the reference to emm386.exe with umbpci. UMBPCI can be found at https://dosprograms.info.tt/indexall.htm#utils.

I just remembered: the latest problem started when I disabled the floppy driver. How do I reinstall it in Safe mode? I know the Add New Hardware control panel but don't know here the driver is or what it's called. BTW, I'm not at my mother's house right now, so I can't apply any suggestions, but I …

When/if you get back to it, try including the area between CA00 and DFFF as UMBs. On my Win98SE tower, QEMM's MANIFEST reported similar, and I added the first 32k of the area to the available RAM in EMM386 successfully--the upper 32k in the range didn't work.

wierd_w: QEMM's Stealth modes allow one to put UMBs where ROMs are by trapping accesses to such ROMs, switching them in upon access then switching RAM back in upon exit.

Did you try "I=CA00-DFFF"? I don't understand why Checkit 3 reported it as UNKNOWN, but EMM386 doesn't detect it. Also, "I=B000-B7FF" should buy you an extra 32k UMBs at the cost of mono modes which are almost never used anyway.

Well...Specifying HIGHSCAN on EMM386's command line might buy you more memory, but it couldn't help your situation. 🙁 Have you tried UMBPCI? It helped me get UMBs and EMS on a Win98SE tower in Windows mode. You can find a link to it at https://dosprograms.info.tt/indexall.htm#utils.

I really don't want to do a full reinstall of everything, as I have a whole lot of things installed on it, including some that were already installed on it. Myne: I will try to remember next time I'm at my mother's house.

Thank you. The program right now is displaying a whole lot of diagnostic information upon execution and is only displaying two tokens after sorting. This shouldn't be, as the text compiles to 1370 bytes uncompressed. Earlier in the process, the raw tokens found were more realistic, though.

Maybe the numbers I was getting were due to a syntax error in the example test file causing much of one string from compiling correctly, as after the correction, I was doing horrible. :( I've gotten it to work several times, but the compression ratio was horrible. :( While it's doing its job, it's …

I don't know why, but it got past there now. Now, I have another problem: I was reinstalling Windows at the time, and now, I'm getting the exception error while it's installing the hardware. 🙁

If you mean about Daemon Tools, I tried a copy I had, but there was a driver conflict error. I think the copy to which you linked would result in the same. I tried to reinstall Windows, and now, during the boot process, the system spontaneously restarts. 🙁

When I double-click on the Daemon Tools icon on my desktop, I get an error message referring to "C:\Windows\daemon.dll." I'm wondering if replacing this file will help, but I've been unsuccessful in reinstalling Daemon Tools. How do I replace that file?
