Re: EMERGENCY! Windows 98se Floppy Boot Disk Needed!

in Windows
I thought the OEM disks on the site were the correct ones? Dont know havent used a proper MS disk in years. I just a generic boot disk and run setup manually that way you get the bonus of using switches to skip the scandisk before setup starts If you have a working copy of Win98 you can always do …

Re: My Dual Xeon PC

I’m building a Prescott based system but just still collecting the parts, most of what you have got is on my wish list! Especially the case/PSU but can’t justify getting it while in the UK just to ship back to Oz in a few yeas time also want corsair ram but its just so expensive! I like how the …

Re: windows8

I do think Windows has lost the edge to Mac and has lost focus trying to get on top again with the focus on making everything more pretty rather than performance. I am so sick of waiting for the pretty icons to load on 2008, it’s a server it doesn’t need to have high res everything! XP is still my …

Re: Dos easy installation CD

in DOS
I did have my Dos folder backed up on a cd just copy the folder on a newly formatted drive. That worked for 2 PC’s the only difference was sound drivers. The rest like Network, CD-ROM, Mouse drivers were all the same anyway. Windows 3.11 was also on the CD so no more feeding disks but never worried …

THEN install 2k which will detect Win98 but leave it alone if you tell it. If you install Win2k on your last …

Re: My DOS/Windows 98SE PC

fair enough then, really Win9x games came out when 128MB was alot, 256 was about the time people were moving over to XP 512 just gives you extra to play with, but your not going to miss it. EAX gives better sound effects in games like background noise, more defined echo’s in tunnels, stuff like that …

Re: My DOS/Windows 98SE PC

Nice basic case with no over the top “styling” I like it! Good build too. Only thing I would change is 512MB RAM (just casue windows likes it) and a Sound Blaster Live or above for EAX (depending on what games you play that is) but really there isn’t much this PC won’t be able to do I remember when …

Re: Is the old stuff still worth learning?

I’m not sure what my job is as I get e new title with each new job! “(outsourced) IT guy” seems to follow me so maybe that? Basically something IT-ish doesn’t work I come and fix it So from my experience Old hardware sticks around till it breaks so I think basic knowledge is worth it within reason. …
