Re: What do you miss about the old web (internet)?

I wanted to buy a trampoline for my kids the other day, a quick google found me some impartial, location specific advice and reviews, one of which included a link to a local distributor. The local distributor's site was fantastic, and within a few seconds of landing on it a "chat" dialog popped up …

I never tried the windows version, I spend more time in DOS during the Windows 3.x years and then poor Xtree went from hero to zero in my book when Windows 95 came along. …

i always loved how at the start of the race the car was clean, and by the end of it it was all dirty and covered in mud. Yeah there's lots of attention to detail in this game and it makes for a great experience. Like when it's foggy, the fog comes and goes as you progress through the stage. And the …

Right I tried this again and you're right, it did work with a different joystick - it was actually a CH Flightstick (classic) that was giving me the trouble. So I got MIDI + joystick going on the SB16, but in DOOM (which I was using to test) the music was slowing down periodically with a joystick …

I tried 2 but both Thrustmasters. I'll try with a Sidewinder and report back. I'm sure I read somewhere that this was a limitation of the Sound Blasters, and it was one of the reasons people went for a dual sound card setup. It doesn't really make sense though I suppose, as they use different ports …

Like most of my ‘discoveries’ this is probably old news around here, but I had a dilemma and found a solution so I thought I’d share it. I use 2 sound cards in my PIII machine, a Sound Blaster Live! for Windows 98 duties, and a Sound Blaster 16 ISA when booting directly to DOS 7. The SB16 has an NEC …

Re: ReelMagic MPEG Decoder running Return to Zork

Great post! Sounds like it was worth the wait. What a honking great card just to get a little video going, those were the days. I walked up to A1 Used Computers a while back (I work in Melbourne CBD) after seeing all that great stuff listed on their website, but they were unhelpful at best. The …

My play through of Boiling Point came to a messy end when the game world got into such a tangle that I couldn’t continue; not a completely unexpected result unfortunately. It’s a fragile game. To get my jungle shooting fix I’ve continued with Far Cry 3, which I’ve been playing on-and-off since it …

Sony have done a teardown of the PS4, see below. I have no interest in modern consoles but I must say that looking at this got me a little bit pumped for the PS4. I think I just have a thing for hardware. It's a pretty mean looking machine. http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/11/ps4-gallery/ http:// …

What do you want to code? Web? Games? Android apps? There's different tools for different jobs. I code C# / Java for a living, but if I was doing it for fun then I'd get me the Unity engine and play with that.
