Digital out through sub-woofer port on SB0060

Hi everyone. I wish to output a digital signal from my SB0060 sound card (running in a Windows 98 machine, if it matters). I understand that my model of sound card can output an S/PDIF signal through the subwoofer out port , but I am unsure how to hook this up. Do I need some kind of proprietary or …

Re: Suggestions for w98se GPU with DVI out

A GeForce FX 5200(LE) AGP with DVI is what I use for this purpose. These cards are 2x AGP compatible, the connector is properly keyed as 2x/4x. Performance-wise, it is roughly a GeForce 2/3 equivalent but with DX8/9 features. OK, thanks for the suggestion. I can't find many of those for the same …

Re: Suggestions for w98se GPU with DVI out

In my own naive understanding, it seems to me that a 1440p monitor would be ideal for this kind of thing since you can integer scale the image from 640x480 and 1280x720 inputs? I would think that if you only need to double or triple or lines then the scaling shouldn't be too much of a problem for …

If you are intending to also do some DOS gaming with that system make sure your monitor supports 70Hz mode with that HDMI input. If it does only 60Hz as many do there's going to be extremely noticeable frame skipping with DOS games that expect 70Hz, like Doom. Also early NVIDIA cards can have awful …

Re: Suggestions for w98se GPU with DVI out

I just also want to make it clear that the reason I am looking for something with DVI is that I would need to connect it to a modern monitor through a DVI-HDMI cable - am I wasting my time here? I feel like it should be OK, as long as the monitor supports the resolutions I am using, right?
