Re: indirect sound

The registry mod procedure ( https://www.indirectsound.com/registryIssues.html ) is still needed? Yes, that is still needed for those games that create the DirectSound interface using COM functions. Luckily this is a small percentage; most games just use the DirectSound functions. There is another …

Re: Gears of War PC (2007, DX10) 5.1 via HDMI?

in Windows
I was planning on a modded Mass Effect 1 run in the near future as well, and I'm aware that this 5.1 issue also stretches to that game. So I could really use a fix if I want proper surround. Hi, I don't know about Gears of War (have it on xb360 but not the PC version), but I have successfully …

I prefer DSOAL sound over indirectsound. It fully emulates 3D hardware audio, fixes sound bugs on modern systems and supports more games. Found it on nexusmods. Glad you found something that works well for you! If you know of games that don't work with IndirectSound I'm always happy to hear about …

Re: General A3D tweaks?

in Windows
A really neat thing is that it has digital optical out so i can connect the retro htpc to my big living room reciever. Pure digital signal with no noise :) About the sample rate setting. I have not tried any other games with this setting changed yet so i cant say if it will work on more games. Quad …

Issue report: Sound disapearing in GTA SA 1.0. It happens only with Insanity Audio Pack. https://www.gtainside.com/en/sanandreas/mods/83281-san-andreas-insanity-audio-pack-v2-1/ (reequires modloader) The same issue is on DSOAL, and Alchemy (fixed with buffers=5). IndirectSound 0.17 is free of the …

The registry mod procedure ( https://www.indirectsound.com/registryIssues.html ) is still needed? BTW, it's possible to duplicate needed entries at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID. These are per-user, don't need fiddling with permissions and probably survive OS upgrades. And Windows looks …

IndirectSound request for testers

in Windows
I have been working on rewriting a substantial portion of IndirectSound to use Windows Core Audio rather than XAudio2, and while doing so I have moved from Visual Studio 2010 to Visual Studio 2017. (I originally used 2010 because that was when the last version of the DirectX SDK was released and I …

Re: indirect sound

Should there be an inherent reason why (at least with a specific game and on XP), more than stereo wouldn't work when audio "hardware acceleration" is disabled in Windows? The posts in response to your question have already covered everything, but if you're curious to try it out for yourself you …

Re: indirect sound

IndirectSound's website and ReadMe should mention dependency on Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) . Not everyone is informed that installing all vcredists is a good idea. Well, all of them between 2005 and 2017 with the exception of 2015 since 2017 is binary compatible …

If you check the folder itself there are two binaries of some tests http://www.indirectsound.com/downloads/ Ah ha, you've cracked my heavy security! I sometimes use that folder for debug versions for people helping me try to fix bugs, so if anyone downloaded a debug version (that I've just …

Any news about LiteTech fix? (Blood 2, NOLF 2, etc.) No, sorry, I haven't made any progress since last we talked about it :depressed: . I'm really stumped on what could cause the game itself to delay making DirectSound calls. I was going to install NOLF 2 on my XP machine to see if I could get any …

Any chance you can look at Elite Starfighter and Thandor: The Invasion? Elite Starfighter currently requires Creative ALchemy as there's audio distortion natively and with IndirectSound. Thandor: The Invasion has audio distortion problems natively and with IndirectSound, Creative ALchemy seems to …

Re: indirect sound

I was surprised to find that none of the characters showed up! Since I've never played it and only use it to test IndirectSound I'm reasonably sure that I haven't changed any of the game files (and it's GOG and not Steam so they shouldn't auto-update), which makes me wonder if something with …

Games using Miles that have historically only supported 5.1 rear surround can …

I made an interesting discovery today. That FX buffer code actually does something. So one thing that is definitely audible with FX code doing its thing is the delay. at least in that area, it creates reverb effect (aka. GUID_DSFX_STANDARD_I3DL2REVERB from dsound.h). If you download the patch again …

I forgot to mention this the last time, those effects that The Suffering: Ties That Bind tries to use are unused feature. I NOPed those calls out in my patch . With the patch, it also works great now with Microsoft's DirectSound, irregardless of operating system version and installed sound card. …
