Re: Rune Gold 3D Audio Issues

in Windows
So i have a Soundblaster Card and when i use Alchemy with Rune Gold 3D audio technically works but a lot of sounds are coming from the wrong direction. Like audio in front of me comes out of the rear channels and vice versa. If I uses DSOAL with OpenAL-Soft it just doesn't seem to work at all. I am …

Hey, I am wondering if you have the Trip Planner set of CD's , that were a pre-order exclusive for the game, if so, can you please write me back and let me know ? Thanks in advance ! Hi, sorry, I just have some CDs that were bonus packaged with some graphics card I bought back in the day (if I …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
jonpol, I would like to ask you a question: have you ever thought, with your knowledge, of contributing to the development of DSOAL? I think it could speed up its development. No, IndirectSound is enough to keep my DirectSound hobby time saturated :). I don't mind sharing knowledge ( we even had …

Re: indirect sound

Just for posterity's sake for anyone reading this in the future, some of the talk about EAX and Far Cry 64 bits are continuations of a different discussion here: Re: Far Cry If you're interested, future person, that thread might give some more context 😀

Re: Far Cry

jonpol, if you have time and desire, would you check if Far Cry 64 bit makes EAX calls like the 32 bit version? Only the v1.32 64-bit patch needs to be installed https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/442-far-cry-amd64-64-bit-upgrade-patch/ and https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/ …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
What I don't understand is why Creative is so reluctant to release source codes and documentation of technologies that are no longer supported and with which they no longer have a way to monetize. I don't have an answer, but from what I can tell on the outside and after-the-fact it seems like …

Re: Far Cry

An X-fi release day review argues they even had to tone down EAX effects in some points I interpret the nordichardware site as talking specifically about the crystalizer functionality: In short, we should have a lot to gain from using Crystalizer. When we turn on the effect you notice how the …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
There was also much more going on, but I just wanted to point out that reverb must be there somewhere. I don't really know how they possibly solved it in ALchemy once (it doesn't seem to be through the usual simple game profiles), but something can definitively be done for as much as it might be …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
I think we can be pretty confident that any EAX settings that the game is trying to set with ALchemy/DSOAL/IndirectSound is going to be consistent in older operating systems with actual hardware that supports the same EAX level. It's absolutely not a reasonable assumption. A lot of time Creative …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
First of all thanks for the explanation. I suspected Far Cry was doing weird things and figured that ALchemy could set the wrong reverb. The final test would be to try Level 2 Carrier on a Windows XP machine and hear whether or not there is reverb. Anyway, if DSOAL behaves correctly and it's a Far …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
I have some news. With DSOAL r418 the reverb in Serious Sam's Karnak level works (although I had to set boost = +12 to hear it). It contains OpenAL Soft 1.21.0. Since OpenAL Soft 1.21.1, the reverb stops working. In Far Cry I still don't hear any reverb. Can you get me a save game at the spot that …

Re: Far Cry

Hey Jon! Any news about indirect sound? Happy holidays meanwhile! Hey there, happy holidays to you too! I don't want to hijack the thread, but I can try to give a short summary of IndirectSound developement hehe. XAudio2 turned out to not be able to give me the performance needed for EAX with how …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
I ran across this post and was curious so I did a bit of testing. I installed the Steam version of Far Cry on my Windows 10 machine because I didn't have the motivation to go find my Far Cry discs and install on my Windows XP machine, but I used IndirectSound to see if EAX was being used. Far Cry …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
DSOAL works in other games. In Far Cry and Serious Sam, however, the reverb effect is completely missing. I guess in Far Cry, no EAX effects are used other than those described by mirh. EDIT2 I believe that, at least with this game, I will be using Alchemy. I don't notice any effects or differences …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
I have an issue with Indirectsound (v. o.20) with Colin McRae Rally 2005 (and maybe others). Without Indirectsound I found it sounded off (5.1 setup) on Win 10 x64, especially on rainy stages the raineffect would drown out other sounds. With Indirectsound it sounds much better, however for some …

Re: Surround Sound in Gears of War, W10?

in Windows
IndirectSound itself doesn't do anything differently with 3D sound with eax2 enabled, but it's possible the game itself might have different settings somehow. I wouldn't recommend using either eax1 or eax2 with IndirectSound unless it's necessary (some games won't enable 3D sound without it). None …

Re: Surround Sound in Gears of War, W10?

in Windows
Okay, this is very odd. When I have IndirectSound's eax2 enabled, positional separation seems to be "harder," for lack of a better word. But I periodically hear - and I swear I'm not joking here - the game pause sound effect from Super Mario Bros. 3. I only hear it during action, and it's quieter …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
but that would also change your system's behavior for every game Actually, you still have to put game.exe.local file in its folder for the registry setting to be effective. Oh, ok, I guess I didn't read the description carefully enough. In that case I think I'd rather just copy the dsound.dll …
