Newer sca SCSI drive not detecting

So I have a newer 80 pin SCSI drive hooked up via a 80 to 50 pin adapter that supplies power (since there is no molex on the drive), 50 pin cable running from the adapter to a VLB adaptec scsi board on my 486. I can't for the life of me get the drive to detect. I am thinking it's a termination issue …

I'm using an AST Rampage on mine, 16 bit ISA takes SIMMs. works great and fills in the memory hole up to 640k. I've also used an Intel Aboveboard that worked as well.

Hmm, do you have another video card to test with? Are you using the IBM Diagnostic/setup disk? Have you tried GSETUP from minuszerodegrees? the way i see it, you have a 50/50 chance of being right on the floppies. I'd try to set them to HD first and see if they read/write any 1.2mb floppies.
