Re: Orion Burger and DOS32A.exe

So that seemed to work and I tooled around for it for 15 minutes. The vast majority of the time, when something works once with DOSBox and doesn't work again, it's because you changed how you're mounting things. Did you mount the CD? Yes, the CD has been mounted this whole time, and I even re- …

Orion Burger and DOS32A.exe

So, after reading about Orion Burger on HG101 many years back, I decided to try Orion Burger (1996, Sanctuary Woods), which I found for DOS. It was not, unfortunately, compatible with ScummVM, and I installed it with a new copy of DOSBOX-X, latest version for Win7 64bit. After finagling with how to …

Re: Bugdom

in Windows
Try DxWnd . https://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/discussion/general/thread/d9af1d24/?limit=25 Thanks! It now starts up and can be run full screen (stretched). I was looking into Quesa as well to try to patch the system call. The problem now is that the player character tends to follow the mouse for …

Bugdom

in Windows
Recently, I acquired the old Pangea game Bugdom to play on my PC (it's been years since I played the Mac version, which is now freeware). But after I installed it I ran into some problems. It has the first two static logos come up (if a bit stretched) Either before or during the Pangea song (the …

Re: Mac Emulation on Windows

It depends on what you want to emulate. Mini vMac is good if you want to emulate System 6-style games, while I've found SheepShaver to be good for everything else (just be sure to check the "68k" checkbox for SheepShaver). There are a few quirks SheepShaver has that Basilisk II (a 68k emulator) …

Re: games that are better on a Macintosh

You know you can play all above games on platform of your choice in emulator. Nobody forces you to use real mac here ;) But does the emulator emulate the unreliability of a real mac? If not, then it isn't a good emulator. Macs were amazingly reliable back in the day. The 1990s-era clones …

Re: Strange SimCity 2000 Mac Graphics

in Milliways
Sorry to bump an old thread but I had come across the same thing--it looks like the parachute is only in the Mac 1.2 version because it's the same sprite found in SimTown (an Easter Egg by typing "uspa87419"). So, just for fun, I typed that in as a cheat, and HOLY SMOKES it actually works. It may be …

Re: Mid-1990s SETUP.EXE files

in Windows
The installer is 2.x.x.xx, so I'm not sure if InstallShield would work. The file "_inst32i.ex_" doesn't exist but there is a "_mssetup.ex_" file. It is Windows, not DOS, if that helps.

Mid-1990s SETUP.EXE files

in Windows
Tried asking this somewhere else but it was removed because it didn't fit the subject. Anyway, here goes. I have several older Maxis games (SimTower, SimFarm, SimAnt) with CD-ROMs. In particular, I want to install SimTower (from 1995) on my Windows 7 computer; unfortunately, it and other games from …

Re: Analyzing QuickTime incompatibilities

in Windows
One clue that may help me is that there was a log describing a number of files being put into My Documents\C++\, of which it appears to be hidden on Windows. It's also been a while since I booted it up on Mac and see what I could analyze (it's CarbonLib in Mac, that old, but it requires OpenGL, …

Re: Analyzing QuickTime incompatibilities

I've got a game that's a bit long in the tooth It might be helpful to, y'know, say what it is. Is this related to your previous posts? http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=48652 http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=48651 Generally QuickTime compatibility problems come down to having the …

Analyzing QuickTime incompatibilities

in Windows
I've got a game that's a bit long in the tooth (doesn't everybody?), early 2000s, and I've gotten both the Mac and the PC versions of it, and both have a similar problem with switching the level music on later levels (plays Level One for all levels, at least it does for the levels with Level Two). I …

Re: A superior "Riven" build

in Windows
OK, I do have a Windows XP installation on an older computer but I may be able to use Virtual PC from Microsoft with my XP CD that I have, then install it that way. The old versions of QuickTime give me more pause though. I did manage to get WingNuts running (which was crashing because of a lack of …

Re: WingNuts: Temporal Navigator and crashing

in Windows
I believe I've just solved this- tested on Windows XP and Windows 10, most likely everything else... So here's the deal. WingNuts Temporal Navigator relied on QuickTime for playing the soundtrack. In Windows XP and after, you don't need QuickTime installed to play the game, but you won't hear music …

Re: A superior "Riven" build

in Windows
Someone on Reddit suggests that the latest bleeding-edge-not-at-all-official versions of ScummVM are now capable of running Riven. So, there's an option, if you're feeling daring. At the moment GOG.com has the game on sale for a little more than two bucks. I understand it's not the same as the …

Re: WingNuts: Temporal Navigator and crashing

in Windows
PC version was a little harder to find, it's shareware but regardless if I find it or not, I was never able to get it to launch properly past the loading screen. I tried different compatibility modes to launch it but never got it to work. I was hoping to know if I can get it to work on a modern …

A superior "Riven" build

in Windows
OK, I have the Steam version of Riven but I had heard it was buggy (have they at least switched the sound inputs to what they're supposed to be?) and is missing things like transitions. So, I heard some advice and tried the other alternative, installing it from the original CDs. Well, what I found …

[SOLVED] WingNuts: Temporal Navigator and crashing

in Windows
OK, so there's this old game that I really wanted to play since it was on OS 9 and early OS X machines. WingNuts: Temporal Navigator by Freeverse Software. Mac version is easy to find but there was a bug that prevented music from progressing in later levels (10.5 broke it, as I recall). PC version …
