Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

I can confirm the issue as well switching between 4-op and 2-op mode with some of my own files as well. (But I forgot to report it earlier, my apologies!) No worries at all! With my testing, I generally only play through a particular audio chip's VGMs ... it never occurred to me to try other …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

I'll be happy as long as a 486DLC-40 can do it. :) I'll see what I can do; I'll need a decent block of time to try out different things though! 😄 https://vgmrips.net/packs/pack/miwaku-no-chousho-nec-pc-9801 followed by: https://vgmrips.net/packs/pack/rusty-ibm-pc Playing "Painful Sigh" and then " …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

I must say, I'm loving what SBVGM can do while really lamenting what it can't do. No CPU PCM support (or DMA/ADPCM support for SB16 or OPNA) seems bizarre when the MSX equivalent can manage. Thank you for the feedback! The lack of CPU PCM support is partially due to the original experimental nature …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Hello, is there any news on supporting the retrowave opl3 express? it uses the Yamaha YMF262-M chip. I tried using all command options while running SBVGM in DosBox-X (that supports the retrowave olp3) and none work :c If you've setup the RetroWave OPL3 Express to work properly under DosBox-X and …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

SBVGM v1.42 is available from: http://www.oplx.com/code/ This update includes: Added preliminary OPL4 support. Notes For OPL4-based sound cards, it will be necessary to have used a utility (such as OPTi82c929_Driver ) that properly initializes the sound card to use the OPL4; SBVGM won't do this. It …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Hello OPLx, I've been testing some Atari ST tunes on my PC-98, and came across the issue where samples (a.k.a. digidrums) don't play properly with SBVGM. No such issue occurs on regular VGMPlay, so I'm gonna assume that this is just a timing issue. Example recordings: https://www.mediafire.com/file …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Thank you! I'm coding an AY music player for DOS and like you I'm using a Game Blaster Card to output the sound but isn't quite perfect and the DOSBox GB emulation is not 100% perfect. No problem, have fun making the player! You're right about DOSBox's GB emulation. I haven't (yet) found a DOS …

Re: TNDLPT : Tandy Sound on parallel port

in Marvin \ Sound
I have 2 questions about my TNDLPT. 1. From which file/extension should I import AGI music in Larry 1, KQ1 - in TNDY Tracker when I import AGI music from game I see only resources01, resources02 etc to choose, and none of these files works, show error message. 2. VGZ files playing in SBVGM player …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

ooh the hat of shame is an heavy one to wear 😳, before contacting Kaminari I made sure I had latest version of his rip and apparently I did not and it play perfectly now... I made you waste your time because of this and I feel terribly sorry about that 😔 No worries at all! That's one of the …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Hi OPLx, I must have forgot that the SAAYM soundcard allow to play Genesis/Megadrive VGM, and most of them sound perfect ! But I realized that one of the very best soundtrack for the console was not plaing properly, it's the Dune music from Cryo. The music by Stephane Picq and Philippe Ulrich is …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Have you tried to add the -noscan parameter ? In version 1.35 OPLx implemented that function that comes in very handy when you have multiple soundcards with overlapping features and you want to disable "searches" and manually specify what devices you want in the mix. For instance "sbvgm.exe -a388 - …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

I used the cyber1-2.zip files to check it out using an SAAYM and it seem everything is in there now! I also noted SBVGM1.32&1.33 would leave a weird noise at the end of the music but it was corrected in 1.41, but the noise is still somewhere. When using OPL3 to play YM262 files it end up leaving a …

Re: A DOS program to test OPL2 percussion (0xBD)

Perhaps it's a bad VGM capture rather than a bug? I've attached a DRO version of highways that I captured for you. Maybe this doesn't have the issues you see. In your file, the 0xB7 register has index 0x75. After searching 0x75 after header There is only one occure: "75 00". This file also is …

Re: A DOS program to test OPL2 percussion (0xBD)

OPLx , thank you for your research. Do you have your detailed notes about it? It is not describad in any online document (the Tom Tom influence to HH/CY). In future if I will have YM3812 (the YM3812 costs only $1-3 per one item) I can try to study this mechanism. Is the TC also influenced by …

Re: A DOS program to test OPL2 percussion (0xBD)

in PC Emulation
Just a minor correction to what I wrote above. The FNum and Block value for operator 15 (tom tom) and the Multi setting for operator 18 (cymbal) affect the final output on operator 14 (hi hat). Operator 17 (snare drum) is only influenced by operator 14's FNum, Block, and Multi setting.

Re: A DOS program to test OPL2 percussion (0xBD)

in PC Emulation
I will look today at snaretest file. One thing to keep in mind is that the frequency of the tom tom (operator 14) affects that of the hi hat (operator 13) which ultimately affects the snare drum's frequency (operator 16). The roadmap uses operators numbering from 1 instead of 0. Thus "(14)" means …

Re: A DOS program to test OPL2 percussion (0xBD)

While it does not reveal the full details of how the percussive mode works, the OPL3 Percussion Mode Map is fairly a close model. One thing to keep in mind is that the frequency of the tom tom (operator 14) affects that of the hi hat (operator 13) which ultimately affects the snare drum's frequency …
