Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I got together with several friends and did a run on making PCBs and the components needed to build the HardMPU-WT boards as well. I spoke directly with PickledDog, and they were super nice and really helpful in getting me the information I needed to be able to submit the files to get the boards …

Re: I have an Aztech Sound card that I cannot seem to get the drivers working for.

The software mixer does work with the nova16. There is a different driver set used for the straight nova16 but the vogons drivers section has them. What you will want to do is download the aztech drivers archived, find the nova16 folder, and then open the readme. From there you will want to match …

Re: I let the smoke out of a Pro Audio Spectrum 16. Can it be repaired and saved?

Edit: -5v are required for PAS16, AFAIK. Back in the day it was just normal for XTs/ATs to have that voltage available. It was used for powering DRAM chips, originally, among other things. In theory, you can use that voltage blaster card that someone made (aka naked LM7905 on a PCB). Even though …

Re: I let the smoke out of a Pro Audio Spectrum 16. Can it be repaired and saved?

Thank you everyone for the help. I have gotten the replacement tantalum caps and I have replaced the caps near the ISA connector. The card lives. No smoke. However, now I'm facing another strangeness. The volume on the out is really really quiet and turning it up loud enough to hear results in quite …

Re: I let the smoke out of a Pro Audio Spectrum 16. Can it be repaired and saved?

Okay. I'm trying to buy the Tantalums. I have multiple listings. Some of them are labeled ESR. Should I go with those? Some say 10%, others say 20%. Should I go with the 20% ones or the 10% ones? I want to make sure I get ones that will last. The voltage I plan to go with is 25V, if that won't cause …

Re: I let the smoke out of a Pro Audio Spectrum 16. Can it be repaired and saved?

Okay I saw 10u at 25v with the proper spacing. Is Kyocera okay as a tantalum? The only other one that shows up is one called Kemet? Which would be the preferable brand? And on top of replacing the four next to the ISA edge connector, should I replace *all* of the tantalums on the board? There are 16 …

Re: I let the smoke out of a Pro Audio Spectrum 16. Can it be repaired and saved?

Thank you for the information. With them being PTH, I'm confident I can remove and replace. I wasn't sure what they were. Most of the capacitors I work with are electrolytic, so I wasn't certain these were capacitors. So as a safety precaution, I'm going to replace all 4 of the tantalums there in …

Re: I let the smoke out of a Pro Audio Spectrum 16. Can it be repaired and saved?

Okay here are the pictures I took of the components that failed. The pictures I got with my phone look close enough to read the values, but I'm not 100% certain. It looks like they say 10u and 16? Is that 16 volts? There also appears to be an orientation of positive and negative pins? I feel like …
