I'm having the same exact problem but with one voodoo 2 card in my sytem, and I'm also disabling D3D from the options menu... no go. Any solutions yet?

I would get a V5 5500 PCI just to have it, but not for Pentium PRO MMX 300 it that even excists.? Is it a overdrive cpu? or a old PPRO or a PMMX at 300? Well, the Gamma is set at 1.30 which is pretty normal and I don't anything is overheating mainly because other games are working perfectly.
